@#20 I wonder if persistance paid off and they finally kept a kid long enough he/she could help on the farm.

Sweet stuff. The cemetery photo is my favorite, I love really old cemeteries and always feel drawn to the children's tombstones. It wasn't uncommon for families to lose one baby after another like that, sad.

Agreed. My mom has 6 kids (Crazy! I know!) and thanks to a blood type mismatch, she would have lost four of them without simple, routine modern medicine. It's a very sad fact that the vast majority of humans who were ever born died without reaching adulthood.

Cunyngham was a captain in Baltimore during the Battle of Baltimore as part of the war of 1812. How bad ass is it that a Scotsman immigrates here to help defend our country.

If your boots aren't muddy and your pants aren't ripped you did something wrong.

Thanks! #11 is on the Northern Central Railroad Trail. It's the mechanical arm for an old railroad crossing. There's a ton of cool old sites (buildings, equipment) going from maryland to penn on the trail.
