| | | Shot with a kodak z990. Any c/c is appreciated, I'm sort of learning photography on the go. 1 The Other Side
16 second exposure, iso 400 2 Hospital
16 second exposure, iso 200, fstop f/3.2 Converted to Black and White via photoshop. I just started experimenting with B&W.

| | | Leveling shots can be pretty important sometimes to making them seem more fine tuned. Shot one could use some slight tweak but two is just fine. Aside from that, just keep lines in mind. I would have cropped out the windows to the far left on the second shot or used the clone tool in Photoshop. In 1 I feel the skyscraper is a bit too close to the pole to its left, a slight move to the side fixes it. All and all they're good shots and you'll only get better with time

| | | #1 is grainy. You might have had the ISO set too high. Assuming you're using a tripod (which you should for a shot like this) there is no reason not to set your ISO as low as your camera will allow. In terms of composition, I think #2 is a much stronger shot.

| | | 1. Excellent subject matter for this shot, a good solid foundation. However some technical and composition things to fix up. Level that horizon, bring the camera, so that the front of the lens is parallel, and loose the person to the right side, bit distracting. Drop the ISO, run it at 100-200 range. Stop the lens down do at least f/8, you'll need a longer shutter speed, but it'll allow for more of the image to be in focus. 2. Agreed this is the stronger image, excellent choice with b/w. However, the f/3.2 is not cutting it, far too open, which narrows the amount of the image that's in focus, so overall the image is really soft.

I don't think this camera will shoot an exposure longer than 16 seconds.
You're doing good for the camera you've got to work with. From the little bit of reading I did on that camera it looks like 16 seconds is the max exposure length you can do. If that's the case then you don't really have a choice in upping the ISO or opening the Aperture when the light gets dim. Noise reduction software will help if you have to up the ISO but only to a point. And the same with the aperture you can only open it so far (all while losing depth of field) especially if you are zoom in as I'm guessing the aperture doesn't stay constant. I would try to work with light painting in darker areas or getting a cheap off camera flash and some gels that you can pop off during the exposure. Short of upgrading camera's or shooting in better light that's all you can do. And of course flashing lights around doesn't work if you're trying to be stealthy. Work with what you've got or sell it and get something different. Just my .02

| | | The camera does have some annoying limitations, and I am working on saving for a DSLR. The camera does have a manual setting mode so you can adjust aperture f/2.8 to f/8.0, iso 125 to 3200, and up to 16 second exposure. I've been working in this mode for a while, and i'm starting to get better at using it. The biggest issue to deal with is getting it to focus on what you want.. being there is no manual focus. Thanks for the C/C from you all, its much appreciated.
