RCAF Station Rivers

Hi everyone!

I moved to Manitoba last year but I haven't explored anything yet...except what's left of the former Base Rivers during the summer. I have been exploring for about 10 years mostly in the Montréal area but also in Ontario. Please let me know if you need an urbex partner...I am desperate to go out and explore (even though it seems there isn't much to see in terms of abandoned buildings in this province) and my camera is gathering dust...

There are a few posts from me on the Québec forum if you want to have a look at what I do. Here's a few pictures from CFB Rivers:

They are kinda boring..but I guess it's better than nothing.

I enjoyed exploring that old military base even though there are very few buildings still standing. The former barracks and the old QM/supply buildings are full of hog farming equipment dating back to the late '80s and the old hangars are now used by a fertilizer company... The fire hall building seemed in pretty good shape so I am assuming it is being maintained.

I found these old pictures of the steam plant, the supply building (unless I am mistaken) and one of the hangars:

and this aerial photograph from the early '60s:

It was a very busy base back in the day...there were hundreds of PMQs for about 2000 military citizens...a school, an hospital, churches, and obviously a recreation centre with a bowling alley and a movie theatre like every single military base in this country.

I just hit this place up yesterday. We explored only two buildings because the wives shortened our chains before we could totally finish.

Apparently they used to manufacture bicycles in the large hanger sometime during the 1970s. Reduxzero knows more about that part of its history than I do however.

Nice shots!
