|  | | | There's a volunteer opportunity this weekend to help out with the Artificial Reef Society of BC.
I guess these guys are almost finished working on prepping an old destroyer but they still need some help; this is a great opportunity to poke around the bowels of an old ship.

And an excerpt from the e-mail I received:
"In general what we tell people to bring are clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, some work gloves, a head lamp so you can work hands free, whatever tools you have that are close to what is on the list, food and drink for the day and of course a camera for some great photo ops! If you don’t have many tools a basic socket set and wrenches would be just fine and be very useful as we have a full range of jobs, but if you don’t have anything we do have some tools on board so no worries.
Our boat captain’s cell number is 604-328-9771 and his name is Wes in case you are ever running late. Our President Howie Robins number is 604-916-5583."

I don't think there would be any gross asbestos on her, but that's based on my little bathtub toy's setup. From what has been said, the boiler room on my bateau was tented at some point after 1996 for further abatement. (but before I got there in '02)
I'm a little suspicious of the dates mentioned in the wiki article on Annapolis, as I seem to think she came in under her own steam after I joined ALG in 96...I know Nipigon was still steaming around after that.

| | | | Just spoke with a friend who's helped out with the operation the last two saturdays and he suggested that the best weekend to volunteer would be this upcoming Saturday. They're going to be "extracting" all dismantled crap onto an adjacent barge, and then they're having a little celebration barbeque.
If I end up deciding I'm up for it I'll be driving from langley and I'll have a few extra seats available, so if you're interested, PM me..
