I'm new to this forum and am still trying to get the hang of posting with pictures. So i apologize ahead of time. This was the first time I used a time delay/long shutter for the pictures because most of the rooms were pitch black.

first off welcome. Second, do not post location names, this is probably going to get pulled down. Third, editing pictures is a good thing. Fourth, don't post point of entries. Lastly, what kind of potato did you shoot with?

Make what you can.

its comical that a photography elitist doesnt understand that even film is often edited. Not editing a photo doesnt make you a "true photographer"

edit - 11 and 16 in your amusement park thread look edited, tisk tisk

as for the subject matter in your post. Looks like a good location. but what are you shooting with?

canon powershot s3is. I just got the camera and learning how to use it. Before that (and for some of the pictures) i was using a sony mavica fd200 (that used 3.5 floppy disks).

Bessemer is pretty dope. I saw that building along the tracks last time I was down there and I really wanted to stop and check it out.

That neighborhood is super sketchy though. You sir have some balls.

@ john...for a female, yep i sure have some balls! And an old one at that (43!). I was born/bred in NYC, so not a lot shakes me. I went to school at columbia university, in harlem. so i know how to travel and what to say/do/act. I travel alone all the time and refuse to just sit in my hotel room when there's a whole world out there wanting to be explored.

this leads me to naaman's question....i saw the building after i shot the school. as i walked to it, a guy drove up next to me asking me questions about what i was doing there. i just told him, i like taking pictures. he asked some other questions as i continued to walk to the building, and answered them politely. He drove away. As i took pixs 48 and 49, the guy drove back...this time he had a friend in the car. He asked me for my name...i continued to engage in conversation with him as i walked calmly back to my car. now, i'm not from the area, but i bring my gps wherever i go. i programmed to go to the police station. he didn't follow me, but it was getting dark and decided to cut my loss while i still could.

its florida, and like texas, its ok to shoot them in the face with a .45, just sayin.

If you're going to use ellipsis, use them correctly. Expensive equipment doesn't make your photos better. The right equipment does. We all like to explore and take pictures, but we do it with some sort of finesse. Don't post 60 pictures in a post, that's overkill and makes the page incredulously long. Post pictures you think are good, not "oh pile of junk, take picture of that" Don't worry, you'll get better.

Make what you can.

mr. blue, you also need to remember that we dont need to use finesse when taking photos. this particular explorer appears to be more about the explore than the photos. And they document the explore with photos. Which is why there is so many in the post.

There are alot of of us here that take our time to compose shots and expose them properly, but its alot of work that not everyone wants to do or cares to do. Theres a ton of threads about this particular subject so lets not clutter this one up too much, but I'm OK with the large amount of photos.

Oh and I agree that it was the "fucking comment of the year" that you made. I was actually laughing when I read it

thanks haymaker...i'm all about the site and learning about the history. i had to delete my first ever post because i added the history of a site. i guess i have to wait to become a full member to do that. i love the factories/schools/places that were so huge in america at the turn of the century and have been abandoned for one reason or another. it's sad but makes for great stories and exploration. i love researching sites and finding before pictures (while the place was still in operation) and then taking after shots.
