both places look deserted. i was in the basement of both and didn't see anything that would seem like there is power or an alarm. the one place had a light on in the kitchen, but the basement was wide open and so was door into house, there was so much dust on kitchen table, there couldn't be anyone there, (so i thought) so i picked up phone on wall, it was still connected. that's when it beeped, but i left and no alarm went off. but in the second house after it beeped, i stayed to see, and the alarm went off! i tried reading to see what type of alarms are out there, but nothing seems to be like this. like i say just trying to see how to disarm, maybe shutting off breakers won't do anything?

This sounds like a home alarm unit that does not send any info to the alarm company (so it doesn't dial out every 10-30 minutes. If it does then once the alarm company doesn't get a signal they treat it as a break-in). It's just there to be loud and scare people. These models are usually powered by two power sources that connect to the alarm panel or box that is making the noise. Remove the alarm panel face or open box that is making the noise. You'll find a large battery, disconnect it.There should be a power lead that connects into the structure's power/wiring. Disconnect that too. Some times the even run a power cord through the wall to an out let and plug it in and secure with a hex bolt, but it's usually just easier to disconnect it at the unit rather than finding the power outlet.

This may not be true of all alarms, but this might help you. Use at your own risk.

Water turns off almost every electrical device. So if you see it, use your water bottle on it.

If you want that it looks good, make sure that there is water way above on the wall so that they think there is a leak in the wall.

To shut down the battery backup, in case you don't like the water idea, use a CO2 fire extinguisher, cold kills the battery. Bombs squats use cold to kill the battery in bombs.

If you don't want to do this, you foam, you know the one the use in building. Spray it into the siren. So it won't make a sound. If the phone is still connected and you still have power in a socket, use the 110 volts on the phone line, it will fry the phone connection.

Do you know what type of sensor you tripped to sound it? Did you open a door? (likely a reed sensor) break a window (foil strip sensor) or trip a motion detector? Shorting out these sensors will disable them in many older security systems.

If the control panel is hidden, it may be easier to disconnect (beware of closed circuit or resistance change detection circuits) or disable either individual sensors or the sounder. (like spraying foam into a horn or disconnecting it)

If you found a telephone, you can prevent it from calling an alarm station by shorting out the two center pins of the jack. Aluminum foil works in a pinch, or you can make one with a old phone cord.

At night, turn off your flashlight. Many motion residential motion detectors have a pair or more LED's on them, conveniently letting you know how close to tripping them you are.

Yellow: Some Motion
Red: Motion Detected, Alarm Sounded

I suspect this is more likely to trip the alarm than silence it. Even if you poured salt water IN the case, it might not do anything. If it was that simple, I'd just carry a super soaker everywhere.

So your computer will not get damaged by water?

Have you ever poured water on an alarm system that you can say it doesn't work?

Back in the day the group I used to go with, we tripped a super loud alarm downtown. One of the guys was going "what's this white thing on the wall?" *BEEP BEEP BEEP* then the "oh sh*t" moment where we all hauled ass outta there.

No one showed up that we know of. Happens all the time I'm sure.

Have you? Check the conductivity of bottled water and try that again. Yes, a computer can be damaged by water, however just pouring a bottle of water on it is unlikely to simply turn it off. More likely it will malfunction or simply freeze up. go ahead, don't believe me, try it.

I asked you if you tried it.

We killed all kind of things with water. Some are simple alarm devices some were a little more expensive, and water mostly does the deal.

And you can't kill birds or head water with a 200kw radar system. Believe me we tried it.

Let's simply agree to disagree. We both clearly have experience that enforces our opinions. But let's play nice on the rookie forum.

And yes, I have poured water on computers.

Why... does suggesting a noob pour water into something with a live electric feed sound like one of the worst things anyone could be suggesting right now?

It could be worse, someone could have suggested a flamethrower. I'm sure the desired effect/end-result would be the same.

But, yah, not the best idea for a noob.

Depends on how obnoxious the noob is. I probably would have received similar advice.

I've hit three so far, normally places where I have no idea why the fuck they'd alarm them. Houses?

They always tend to go off after two minutes, just enough time to get totally set up and then have to GTFO.

  • Give yourself a two minute quota to get the fuck away just in case. If the police are notified by it that's probably the fastest they'll show up

  • Don't stop for a while to put your shit away, if it's gonna take a while [like dismantling a tripod] just do it while you walk calmly to your car

  • Don't stop because someone told you to. Wait until they're a cop

  • Lay low in the area for a few days at the least

Might want to see if the local paper publishes EMS runs as well. That way you can tell how they respond to alarm activations and the like.

thanx for the advice! i think i'll just pass! but still curious how it's powered. since both places seemed so run down. both i'm assuming were motion detectors. but like i said, light was on in room here i walked into, and yes i can hear it now, the effin light eas on! both times u really couldn't tell till it was too late, because it was sunny and i wasn't really looking. who expects this after climbing thru collapsed roofs and stairs?
