Well me and fatLouie know of a building in the heart of our town. We know someone who works in it and we were there on sunday. There are two ways to get into the main hallways. There is a loby then the loading doors. We first try the Main doors and they are locked. So we go around back and we just open the door and walk inside. After about a second and a half, this high toned alarm goes off and we both take off running. We regroup and I have the idea to send fatlouie in to wait till the alarm stops going off then he will push the door open button. That works and I get in with no alarm going off. The really funny part about it was is that the door wasn't even locked, it had an HID key scaner but it didn't really do anything. It wasn't even locked and it is an office building!!! So we go in and walk up about 5 flights of stairs. We find the other stairs that take you up to the roof door. we get up there and there is a boiler room on the TOP of this building... something isn't right. So we try the door and it is locked. After about 15 min of trying to find the key by looking under fire alarms, buckets, and other random objects (that they feel the need to keep by the roof door) that were up there we came out with out any cool pictures. So if there are any sugestions on where we might be able to find a key or if there is another way to get up onto a roof, that would be greatly helpful. -Vir{u}al

you could always learn to pick the lock...

however with the tools you would need to pick, if you get caught, you would almost surely go straight to jail and forget the 200$...

One suggestion I have for you if you don't want to carry lock picks (or don't want to learn), is to try a very simple master key. Chances are it won't work, but there is a possibility depending on the type of lock. Ok, all of the below is assuming it's a lock by masterlock brand (really cheap locks). If it's one of the newer masterlock padlocks (the ones with the blue bands around them), look on it somewhere for a Number. It will say Masterlock No. 3 or something, chances are it's a one or three, but anyway...

Go down to a locksmith and ask for a key with the cuts "0,2,3,2" in that order for the lock "Masterlock #[insert number on lock here]" now you have a simple little masterkey...

Now if some1 catches you with that key say it's just the key to a bike lock or something. Now once your at the padlock, put the key in, and *gently* applying CW turning force pull the key in and out of the lock until it opens. Chances are it won't work, but it's worth the shot. Good luck to you! If possible, let me know what type of padlock it is, and I'll let you know if it's possible for you to get past it w/o picks.

If you make your own lockpicks, you can make them look incredibly inconspicuous.

well interestingly enough i can and do pick locks but i am out of practice and plus if you get caught you get in even deeper. so it is all an option but we found some pretty good buildings today.

Door locks are even easier to pick... what's the brand?

another simple option is to get a thin piece of solid metal (or any substance for that matter)

slide it in above the latch (or whatever you call the bit that holds the door into the doorjam) between the door and the doorjam

tilt the metal piece so that it will open the latch

now you have an open latch and you can pull the handle - now you have an open door. Find something inconspicuous (i.e. don't use a file for the door jimmy stick) - perhaps something that can pass for photography gear if you do get busted ...

viva la rooftops!
