Do you know what this barge is?

Went for a walk this morning, and came across this. I couldnt get to it, because there was no ramp, or dangerous log boom to crawl across. I couldnt tell what its used for, but it looked really crooked in the water. Im thinking its something to do with the Port Mann bridge. Anyway I snapped a couple of it, and the framing of an old barn on the side of Fort to Fort trail.

Looks like some sort of dredge, but hard to tell from that angle.

I wouldn't be a dredge, as there's no dredge mechanism on it.
Its most likely a simple transport with interesting items on it.
And its port list probably due to the green structure being on the port side.

Not a dredge, but close...it's a "preload" conveyor. Preload is the fine sand deposited by the spring freshets, and dredged from the shipping areas of the fraser. The "preload" sand is used to load soft (swampy) ground with volume and weight to make it suitable for a concrete foundation, or road. There is a lot of preload used south of where this pic was taken, look around the pumphouse, a couple miles down river, same side. There is a mountain of it, where it is stored.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

I'm almost certain ur looking at parts of the former Pitt river bridge. That same barge was just down river on the Pitt river then moved... I attempted to get on myself when it was in Pitt.

I checked...they had to preload the foundations for the new bridge.

The ramps are all sand inside...all sand from within the river.

the ramps are actually massive blocks of styrofoam. I was working in Pitt Meadows, commuting from south Coquitlam when they were building it. I've seen this practice used repeatedly in the PMH1 Project and it's many MANY bridges.

Yeah it's tough when it's a few feet from shore, they have another barge there too now. You can see it from your side of the river.

We used to call this a scow. It was used for unloading gravel off of a barge, onto dry land, into the back of waiting dumptrucks.

Most work barges are called "scows" If it doesn't have a bridge..she's a scow.

They were last week. One has everything above deck removed, the other still has it's bridge, stack, and antenna's, everything.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Correct. There was an Amix barge in the way, would hide it from the surrey side. Can be seen northbound by a passenger on the bridge, and also visible on skytrain.
