hey guys I'm brand new to the site and the UE game. this was my first real trip and i thought it was pretty interesting. after reading a lot of posts i thought i would go with my gut and not try and climb the big ladder in the pictures.... did not seem like a good idea. the smaller ladder was welded to steel so it seemed safe but did not go anywhere. i know the pictures are pretty bad but i'm new and don't really know what to take pictures of and stuff. i cant think of any safe way to climb that huge ladder but if anyone has ideas let me know. the tower is about 100 feet tall and the ladder goes all the way up and is bolted into concrete.

Welcome! Looks like a neat little place there. Any idea what it was used for? Storage of some sort?

It's rather difficult to safety yourself on a ladder like that.

If you're worried about the ladder breaking, there's not much you can do. Use redundant hand and foot holds, so that if any one gives out, you won't fall. Try jumping on the lower rungs to see if you can break them.

If you're worried about your grip failing, there's no simple answer, but you could do something along the lines of lead-climbing or clipping in periodically using a cow's tail. Both of these require expensive and rather elaborate climbing gear. It also depends on the strength of the ladder to catch you if you fall (which will cause a shock-load of several times your body weight.)

In general, however, it's difficult to fall off a ladder. I've climbed over 100 feet on the outsides of ducts and sprinkler pipes. It's mostly nerves. That being said, if you really don't trust the integrity of the ladder, don't climb it.

welcome welcome, don't worry about the pictures, everyone's tend to suck starting out unless they mess with all the settings a lot. Interesting place you've found there, i personally avoid ladders that high but if you want to try it Ervanal is pretty dead center on the tips for safety.

the circular portion of the building is definitely a grain silo. i assume the square portion was used for loading and off loading grain into the silo. i could not get any good pictures of the inside of the circular portion because i did not have enough light for that huge space. but now that you mention it i tested the ladder by trying to break the bottom portion and it didn't budge. i think ill revisit and attempt to climb it with a friend. so thanks for the advice guys. and thanks for the warm welcome!
