Exploring while a security guard...

A guy I met once a year or 2 back and I were discussing UE ~I am extremely curious about it though I have yet to find any tempting sites near my current home.. keeping my eyes peeled though~ he said the easiest way he quenched his thirst for exploring certain places, was he became a security guard downtown of where he lived... he met all the guys on night shift and would go in, tell em he was headin down, and go for it, he said it killed 2 birds with one stone, one, there was always someone who knew where he was, 2, it didn't really matter if he got caught, he said he quite enjoyed it, sure it took some of the thrill of doing something illegal out of it, but he was looking for the discoverys...
Sure he eventually ran out of places to explore where he was working, but it was a larger downtown area and it took em a long time to run out,

just thought I would toss this up...

What credentials are needed/recommended for a guard job?

What places are the best places to look for a guard job?

Or any security job you happen to know the answers to those questions for.

I'd love to have a security job.

be clear of most crimes, minus parking ticket crap. I know this state you go through a sled background check which I believe is standard. Also depends on the company, willingness to work bitch hours. Also if you know of a place you want to see check for that company. You can also ask to be rotated.

Up here most newspapers have ads about a company someplace looking for people "want a job in securty fone here" and you go on they give you like a 1 week evening course, background check, ~make sure yer not a thief or murderer~ and then blam they put ya someplace, you could probably ask where you want to go, a few guys i know were guards it didnt take much for em to get the job... "here is yer flashlight, nightstick, mace, and walkie talkie, here is how you use em, have fun...

apartment buildings are always hiring night guys. apartment buildings, especially old ones, are filled with goodies, like roofs and boiler rooms. and its night time sso you most likely wouldnt have a pesky supervisor.

I work in security, for the toronto school board, as a night shift patrol officer. It's a lot of fun (and sometimes quite creepy) to be prowling around the basements of the old schools downtown at 3am. I've been looking for an excuse to go into R.H. King Academy too. Supposedly, it's haunted, and I want to check it out. A few of my co-workers had a spooky experience a few weeks ago.

It's a lot easier (and safer) to explore when you have keys and a dispatcher to call in case something happens.

I work as a security beside university and enjoy it. No need to pick locks...you have the keys. And it is also fun. If you encounter some person, you dont have to hide or something...YOU are the person who says;" wtf are you doing here?"

Yeah, I manage buildings, so security is part of my job. The UE aspect is fun for a while, but once you've exausted every hidden door, hallway, roof, and basement (luckily quite a few for me), then it's back to sitting at a desk with bleary eyes and slowly wandering around doing half-hearted patrols wishing some kind of emergency would happen. Sighhh...

In NYS you need to take an 8-Hour guard certification course. You should have a squeeky clean record allthough not necessary. You can usually sign up for a contract company right off the street and they will certify and train you. Starting pay is usually 6-10 hr. Contract companies usually pay you less to make a profit. Currently im trying to get my ass certified to work at a Casino so I can become independent, I hate living at home.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to everyone..... but they've worked for me

this goes along way towards explaining the wide variety of security guards that i have encountered over the years... from understanding and sympathetic to wannabe cops and morons...
