| | | As a Veteran and a Jeep owner, I couldn’t think of a better place to visit on Veteran’s Day... so I did! All that’s left of the once sizable and vibrant army base are the officer’s club with remnants of their pool (now a Vietnam Vet Chapter), and the 3 test hills that the Bantam Prototype Light Reconnaissance Vehicle was tested on. Bantam won the bid to produce the vehicles for WWII as they were the only one that presented a vehicle before the deadline, and it passed all the requirements. Thru some political wrangling, the plans were transferred to Willys and the vehicle later became known as “Jeep”. There were 3 test hills increasing in difficulty. The last hill was designed to support various terrain simulations by dumping sand, gravel, dirt, etc. on it. Sadly, it’s so overgrown with trees, you couldn’t even walk it. We were thinking the town could clean them up & use them for sledding hills for the kids, as they’re already on a public park and just decaying. I wonder when the last time a Jeep was on these hills (well, I mean the time before that)?! Hill 1: Hill 2: Hill 3:

Pretty sure thats what the pictures are of. There used to be an abandoned office building at fort holabird too, but it was torn down 5 or 6 years ago.
Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears. |
