Has anyone been inside (or even heard of) the tunnels that travel between the Spa building and the Cliff House?
Before they remodeled the Spa Building I had a friend who lived in the apartments, she said in the basement of the building there was a series of tunnels that connected the Spa building "where the prostitutes hung out" and the Cliff House where rich gentlemen stayed back during prohibition days. According to rumors they did illegal gambling and even had a speak-easy in these tunnels.

I am also wondering if anyones been able to find more information on the old train tunnels and tracks that run the hills around Red mountain..
I found a really old car out there once in the hills when I was a teen, it looked to be an early motor coach from the '20s. I'm planning a hike up there soon, before the snows come & will post pictures when I go!

Here's some photos from my trip up there in 05/2010. Most of the wood in these photos comes from an old miners shack that's been slowly falling into the creek since I've been exploring this place, which has been about 7 years or so.

I've heard things about the rail tunnels, and know for a fact that the Colorado Midland used them 'till they became a fallen flag RR (nonexistant) in the '20s.

The rail grade, once out of the tunnels, skirts the highway for a few yards and then US-24 is on top of the old grade pretty much the whole way from Interstate 25's exit 141 to Johnson Village, CO. That's where the RR dropped out of Trout Creek Pass east of Beuna Vista. The D&RG ultimately picked up the RR to take traffic into Beuna Vista on its way to/from Leadville.

In Woodland Park, the RR jogged a little off the current route of US-24 to serve the historic depot in WP.

In Divide, the railroad picked up tracks from Cripple Creek, and the corner of CO-67 and US-24 is fairly close to where that Wye was. CO-67 was also built over top of the RR tracks in the same manner as US-24.

Phantom Canyon road was also a rail road (narrow gauge) that took ore from Victor to Canon City to be processed into gold. Gold Camp road going west out of Colorado Springs shared the same thing: It was a narrow gauge road that brought ore to the corner of 21st and Cimarron Ave in Colorado Springs to be smelted.
