School is Cool!

Jexta and I went downtown the other day looking for adventure. Our goal was to visit one place, which was a quick stop and then go do recon on a couple of locations.

First recon location was a bust. It was way too heavily boarded to gain entry.

The second location, however was pure win. I'm getting ahead of myself though. Let me back up a bit.

We got downtown and were immediately in the boundaries of Art Walk. It is a festival put on by the city at the end of the summer where local artists can set up booths in the historic arts district and sell their stuff and be seen. The police presence was immense.

So we find a good place to park and start walking. We get to the first place and like I said, no entry. But from there we can see the burned out shell of a building that looks like a church a couple of blocks away. So we decide on a whim to go inspect it. Turns out it is a school built in the late 1800s and caught on fire at the beginning of this year. They had that place locked up so tight, boarded, surrounded in razor wire and ghetto... Very difficult to get into.

To top it all off, there was some kind of music festival going on in the park across from the school. The DJ was giving away free chickens. It was a big deal. I actually heard the words "We're out of chickens now, but if you wanna split one with somebody go ahead!" coming out of their sound system.

Put persistence paid off and we found our PoE. Epic-ness ensued.

There's an entry in the UE DB about it if members want to check out some history on the place and (most of) the rest of the (good) photos we took.

I got my chicken.

Nice pics. Based on that notice, I would naturally assume you got permission to be there

The cabinet with the HON... interesting - I've seen something similar before
--- if same meaning... then it stands for "HONor code". Did you check the cabinet for medical information ?

Am working Alabama now... some interesting stuff.

the permission was a haha.... Read the Notice..... Ewww scared.

(first / original) Picture 1... Cabinet on the left.

It may be nothing. It may be something different... But the instances that I've come across indicate something medical may be inside.

On 2 occasions, I've come across medical / patient records in file cabinets that had an HON label on it. In a third, I found brochures for the medical honor code that entities must conform to in order to be part of some "HONor" system. Most of the times, the cabinets were empty. In every instance, there was a sticker on the cabinet that said "HON". I've seen a variety of logos too... Mostly in bold blue letters... Which I believe in your photos were not bold blue. Was the cabinet in a nurses office ? If I remember correctly, the post mentioned a school (insert nurse).

I tried to open the cabinet but it wouldn't budge. Probably had something to do with the rubble piled on top.

I thought it was an advertisement magnet and upon closer inspection, it is. It's for a company called The HON Company. They make metal filing cabinets.

Here, I blew it up a bit.

Thanks,

The blowup definately helped... It's not a medical cabinet related to the HONor system.

What a shame... I was hoping someone else had found something related to what I had previously come across.

Keep an eye out for one though... You may come across one.

Yeah that was higher up in the school I'm unsure if they just left all the stuff there to begin with and the crack heads were only brave enough to go up to the first floor or what but some rooms still had teacher desks still set up like they just grabbed their keys and left everything else

This one's bothered me for a while now... finally found the answer.

At first - I noticed the cabinet had the "HON" label... relating to the "Honor Code"... a medical related code you sometimes find in hospitals.

Then in the zoomed in photo... I could clearly see the logo was different - it was not the same "HON" logo I had seen before.

The HON logo you found is from an office furniture company called "The HON Company" - located in Muscatine, IA.

They have a warehouse/ distribution plant @ N 9th ST and West Ave, Cedartown GA. http://www.hon.com

Whoa. School IS cool!

Seriously awesome location there. I love the pictures, the mural, and the crayons. Anyone play Fallout 3? These pictures remind me of Springvale Elementary School.

Pretty wicked.
