I know they have tried to make this site into something for decades now with no progress but here is the latest info I received on this site. It kind of reminds me what they did to gasworks park in Seattle.

---

The Hayden Flour Mill, one of Tempe's most iconic structures, will get freshened up this summer, thanks to a partnership between the city, the Downtown Tempe Community (DTC), the Rio Salado Foundation and others.

The historic mill and its adjacent silos, located on the southeast corner of Mill Ave and Rio Salado Pkwy, have been fenced off since 1998 and declared a no trespassing zone for safety reasons. The city owns the mill and silos, and has envisioned that a private sector buyer would redevelop it for commercial or residential uses. Under a plan approved by the Tempe City Council in June, the site will become a landscaped event venue while awaiting further economic recovery that could leave to private investment.

The DTC's Urban Garden will move to the site from its current location at 5th st and Forest ave. Boxed trees will be placed on the grounds, fencing will be removed and lighting will be installed. The city and its partners believe the project to clean up the site will increase safety, beautify the historic structures, create an additional space for events and help provide a vital connection between Tempe Town lake an Mill Ave.

Work at the site could be finished by Oct. The buildings themselves will remain closed to the public. Anyone interested in assisting the effort can call the Rio Salado Foundation at 480-473-0245 or the DTC at 480-355-6060.
