HexBright, open source flashlight

So I recently pledged to a kickstarter project for an 'open source' flashlight:

http://www.kicksta...-open-source-light

The flex model is supposed to do 500 lumens and it's pretty damn tiny. I like the fact that it's all open and such but I'm wondering if anyone here has any comments on it? The only problem I can forsee is that it is likely far too directional and needs some kind of diffuser filter. I don't know much about flashlights but like to help out kickstarter projects like this, so I figured what the heck.

TL;DR: I don't know much about flashlights, is this (the prime or flex models) a decent exploring light?

Thanks

Beats me, but I love and have started collecting flashlights so I donated $60 to get one of the 500LM ones

4100 lumens, wow. That sounds crazy.

After watching the videos, it *is* crazy. Scrambling eggs and lighting cigarettes is something I don't want my flashlight to do!

I also pledged for the 500 lumen one, hopefully it doesn't suck.

I got the +/- 180 lumen one from Walmart. It's got a hell of a hotspot and really fast falloff. I would much prefer something much more diffuse, or at least have some sort of focus adjustment. Maybe this light will have such a thing?

Before I shell out $60... is this water resistant, even a bit? Beam distance? Run time and how long does it take to charge?

OLIGHT makes a great product, for sure. Don't know if I would fork out that kind of money though. If money were no issue, I might go for something like the new Fenix TK70 here; http://www.fenixli...nproduct.asp?id=97
