citation needed. I love seeing that on a wiki article. You're not helping yourself with those links.

Also, this little gem of a quote from the creator: "I do not think there is any necessity to go into the methods I employed to arrive at the formula I used, suffice it to say that the final figures agree in an altogether remarkable way with the actual performance of the rifles under practical hunting conditions."

If you read more in to this formula you find out he was using it for hunting big game in Africa with rifles. People have since started using the formula for handgun calibers to describe "stopping power". Usually those people are laughed at .

Yeah, this equation definitely favors larger, heavier bullets... As you said, good against big game (you need to penetrate the heavy skin of the elephant/rhino/dragon), but less so against us squishy humans. Larger rounds tend to punch straight through something like a human, leaving a clean (though large) hole, rather than quickly coming to a stop and delivering all of the carried kinetic energy and force impulse (which is MUCH more devastating medically). Against a human, at any ranges that matter for this context, i wouldn't want anything bigger than a .308 for a rifle, or probably a .40 for a handgun. I don't care much for 9mm ballistically, and .45 is not the most practical round for carrying, in my opinion. If anyone would like to see it, i read an article awhile back written by a medical examiner/self defense enthusiast in a large (and apparently very dangerous) city that examined at length the efficacy of various rounds based on their effect on impact with the human body and context of the wounds. Great read for the handgun caliber debate.

Anyway, more on topic, i was considering for awhile bringing my tricked-out AR-15 to a favorite site of mine both as a part of a photo shoot i've been wanting to do and as a stupid little "up the stakes on getting caught" kinda challenge. I would, of course, remove the firing pin (and possibly the bolt) and not bring any ammo. Never got around to it, but maybe one of these days....

This is the way the world ends.

Really all I have is a flashlight and a small locking knife. Why carry a glock, it's not like your going out there just to shoot a building.

P.S. Another reason why I don't carry a gun is because I'm from Australia and you will pretty much get arrested just touching one.
