agreed. this was in the basement, half way between street level and underground. very cold which was awesome because it was really hot yesterday. also i kept getting blowouts bc the only light source was one window which was directly across from this pipe area. so i thought less was more and got good use of light and shadow.

thanks!

The shadows compliment it well. Personally, I would try photostacking at ISO 100 to get this one right. Less grain and no blowout.

the arrangement of the second one implies upward motion, but the image contains nothing up top. try cropping it differently. shots with vertical motion like that, try having dead space below. therefore it would be weighted like: /\ instead of the other way around (if any of that makes sense).

i had a shit with less wall but i liked the space above so you are correct that it implies upward motion.

reasoning behind choosing that one over the other was because i read the images, they are of babies, puppies and kittens all at play with no care in the world so when i ended up shooting one like this with all the wall space above, i thought, in an abstract sense and fitting to the captions on the images, of lifting their happiness upward from being left in that place.

I like the composition in 4 but the exposure isn't great. It might be tricky to brighten things up without overblowing the highlights in the shaft of light, but it'd be worth it if you managed it. Might even work in black and white - there are some interesting textures and patterns.

thanks, i havent worked in b w for a while but i can always start again. i like shooting in color for and then changing it to b w in photoshop that way i have both shots either in color or b w. if i set my camera to do only b w id miss the color i think

Even if I'm shooting with the intention of b and w (unless I'm using film) I always shoot color and change to b and w with an adjustment layer in PS. Gives you more control.
