Murmur Corporation Lead Smelter; Dallas, tx < on 3/16/2011 12:38 AM >
Captain_Slow and PrivateJoker reporting in for spring break exploration duty.
Went to Dallas looking to visit the Buckshot factory in the UE DB... Sad news, it's locked up tight, new fences and plywood plus mother f-ing guard dogs. However, we found this place near the Buckshot factory, massive 3 building complex with lots of graffiti, lots of hazardous waste, and Playbills. Thousands of them. Accessibility is easy but visibility is pretty high.
Murmur Corp was a large lead recycler, formed by four Dallas businessmen who bought the plant for $25,000 following several months of controversy in 1984 from RSR corp. Murmur Corp already had a history of environmental violations and infractions, but the sale went through and unsuprisingly, in 1995, lawyers representing about 580 children born with defects to mothers living near the lead smelter won a settlement of $16.1 million.

19. teehee
20. Anax
21. Building 3/3
22. Pits in the ground
23. Detail
24. Playbills... Thousands of them.
25. Cats anyone?
26. I can see these guys getting shut down for environmental reasons. This is a massive entire subfloor just like the first building, but instead of rainwater, it's literally entirely filled the semi-solid grey-black goop that was in "Hazardous Waste" barrels in the first building.
27. Emergency breathing equipment, slowly sinking into the pit.
28.
29.
30. In the can
31. How pleasent
32.
33.
34.
35.And we're out.

Murmur was pretty cool. Same thing happened to me and Sam I Am a few years ago where Buckshot was inaccessible so we went here. We stayed for a couple hours too since there was a huge storm outside and some flooding around town. Very interesting atmosphere with all that going on outside.
Sadly it looks like they removed all the old equipment though. I seem to remember there was still some lead smelters left behind.

Oh wow, yeah it's an empty shell now. There's lots of hobo detritus but no industrial stuff left behind save their "hazardous waste", lol. The whole thing looks a LOT different now, it's falling apart quick.
This place has an aura unlike anything I've every come across, there is an active trailer-fabrication business right behind it, and there are dogs living in the buckshot factory, so walking around it all you can hear is metal in the roof, fans, etc groaning and squeaking, dogs barking and metal slamming and banging next door, along with your own breathing. It's intense.

i love the Mighty Mighty Bosstones...good choice of music. Still have yet to go to this location though...couldn't get in cuz when I went there were cops at the corner dealing with something so we went to the abandoned building behind it but didn't stay too long. Not sure what kinda building that one was though...looked like maybe an old garage or warehouse. [last edit 4/3/2011 9:15 AM by urbexinc - edited 1 times]
