The business closed because the market wasn't sufficient to support it. The story I hear is that the earnings couldn't keep up with the skyrocketing maintenance costs as it got older and older. The amount of capital needed to reopen the place would be absolutely enormous. The lodge would almost certainly need to be demolished. I don't think it's salvageable. All the equipment would need to be removed and replaced.
It's very sad what has happened to the place. It is a part of the past and I suspect it will remain that way.
Any news on the collapsing roof in what looked like an upstairs kitchen/cafeteria?

| | | | Appariently it was a controlled burn. Fire trucks and heavy equipment were there on stand by to ensure it burned down accordingly. You can find info on it all on the ski lake Eden Facebook group.

Commenters are saying it wasn't a controlled burn at all. Rather, the owners were burning debris (there sure was a lot of it there) and the fire got out of control, taking the place with it).
Whatever the real story is, I'm rather sad. I was going to head up there to visit in the very near future.
