LOL awesome! Reading all the posts I was just waiting for someone to put this
EXIF data includes date, time, sometimes the camera serial number, and on phones, sometimes GPS tagging. I hide EXIF data for some things, or fabricate it. "Shot in 1893 with a Nikon D7000." |
How do you do this? See I have a whole Flickr account and some stuff I'd rather have hidden on there but have no idea how to - ok to be honest, I haven't bothered to look, but it would be a good idea to cause I'm super quick at posting after exploring. But can you block it for some or will it be for all? I'm curious what the rules are with regards to this post http://www.krages....ographersRight.pdf for Canadians.

| | | I once hid my camera in my tackle box, and carried a fishing pole with me. Stashed the fishing gear and explored an old factory on a river near where I live. I'm sure if you had some shots of a couple of fish on a spare memory card and the gear your story might work. Just make sure you have a license or your looking at a different fine.

Posted by FilthCity Anyways. I wanted to ask if anyone carrys a formatted (empty) memory card with them to switch out when the exit a place?

On Flickr, there's a preference to hide all EXIF data, or you can hide it for only some of them. If you just want to have inaccurate dates, pull the memory battery from your camera and leave it out. Clicky Two suggestions to change EXIF data in XP/Windows. Search 'Exif data change' for more options. Those are free, I believe.

| | | Seeing as though my camera has 2 CF card slots I've often contemplated this. If ever forced to delete (which hasnt happened) I can simply clear one as I can set the second card to be a backup and know I've not lost anything. A bit of fart arsing around but if it gets you out of a jam. As far as our law goes I'm pretty sure from a technical point you can't be forced to erase your data and your camera cant be confiscated but as I said, I've never been put in that position.

Anyone can ask you to do anything. A random person can say "Hey, delete pictures and I won't call the cops," a security guard can say "Delete your pictures and you're free to go" (whether or not they can legally detain you) and finally an officer can say "Delete your pictures and I won't arrest you," and if you delete your pictures then you did it of your own free will. Apparently if an officer makes an unlawful request and you comply, then you willingly did so. I'm sure there's some legal fuzziness there to make that all tidy, but I know for a fact that police officers can lie to get evidence. Oh, and he could still arrest you after making that offer, just like Joe Joke or the security guard could still call the cops. You'll have to play it by ear. Sometimes demanding your rights means you get the whole proper procedure thrown in (Ticket for trespass, processed at the jail, whatever), sometimes it's the right response. Note that if you are unlawfully asked to delete your pictures (or anything else) it's perfectly legal to lie about doing so. There are a few strategies that I'm surprised I haven't heard used yet, but if I post them here then who knows who would read them?

| | | I've been trying to do the double memory cars switch thing for awhile, but the group i explore with always seems to need to leave in a hurry, so i often forget to switch back. but when i do, i always keep the spare card tucked under my hair, since a pat down/search is always possible and i know they wont be bothered to search every inch of my scalp in the field. i did have one case where my "exterior only" card helped me out of a situation. i had photos of another location left on it, and so it helped my "i'm a photographer that likes old buildings" excuse
