Random shots [WARNING: PHOTO N00B]

Just got a new camera. HUGE upgrade from my P&S. These images may be shitty in terms of subject matter and composition, but they are WAY better than ANYTHING I could achieve from my P&S.

These were taken with a Canon Rebel XSi with a 18-55mm kit lens. It was my first time operating the camera. I shot in apature and shutter priority mode, with a few in full manual mode. Mostly shutter priority mode. It should be noted I don't know enough about photography to use full manual mode yet..haha.

These photos are all unedited, shot in JPEG. Again, give me tips on things like shutter speed, apature, ISO, white balance, etc and how changing those may have yielded better shots. Comments about boring subject matter aren't really needed. Weather wise, it was cold and varied between overcast and sunny. Shots were taken between 1 and 3 PM local time.

That being said...here are the fruits of my labor:

Very nice photos, especially the first 4.
only think that the only thing you could have done better would be to expose the pictures more as they seem dull as price said

Either way good shots if you're just starting out.

I agree, they look dull, but the exposure is fine for the midtones.
Bump the highlights up in curves and/or levels but don't blow out the details.

not a bad start....read up on the rule of thirds a bit. also, try to switch up your perspective. steeper angles, closer to the ground, etc to enhance the depth of field and focal points. I also agree a bit more exposure would have been good, but, that's easily correctable and better than having blown-out photos

Snow will trick your cameras light meter. To correct for that, dial in a +1 or so in exposure compensation.

Google things like photography composition, rule of thirds, "finding the subject"... etc.

Since I have to shoot with snow in my shots for half the year, I'm pretty used to spot metering the shit, adjusting up a stop, and then boosting highlights later as Vadder recommended.
