Door Alarm?

This is a roof access door that I have the key to but what I am curious about is what purpose the little metal device above the lock serves. Is it a security feature that indicates the door is open or am I paranoid?

The little item above the lock is for a security guard. He carries a wand that records his rounds. He has to tap that little button looking thingy which looks like a oversized watch battery. They just got done gluing them all over my hospital.

My best guess without a better picture.

I'd agree with this assessment. Doesn't mean there isn't a read switch but that probably isn't an alarm.

If you have the key to it then wouldn't that negate the alarm, if there even is one? Or is this a "key"? (ex: crowbar, blow torch, grenade, C4, fists of fury?)

Someday the world will thank us for what we do. We take that which is forgotten about and immemorialize it through pictures and our minds. History will look back at what we have done and cherish it as a keepsake without a price, for it will show them what time forgot in a way that the world has never seen it. This is why I do this...

That's def. a Deggy, the official name for what Darkwolf described. It has no way of knowing if the door is open or shut. When the guard taps it with his Deggy wand, the wand beeps and records that that Deggy was tapped at whichever time and date.

That's probably not a door alarm. The ones I've seen for residences and businesses all look pretty crude and obvious.

I love how everyone is ignoring Darkwolf and The Dude, who have clearly stated not only that it is not an alarm, but also what it is.

Actually Deggy is simply a brand name, not the official name for what that is. http://www.deggy.com/

And it isn't a Deggy brand one, they have a stainless steel ring around the button, with their brand on it.

hehe true that, but "touch memory button" or "I-button", (described on this site... http://www.guard1....-System-Works.aspx) as opposed to Deggy, the majority of explorers will probably recognize the term Deggy rather than those other two.

The one pictured does look more like "the Pipe" brand found on the linked site.
