Fan Fare Building

I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to the old Fan Fare building in Aurora and if so, if it is worth seeing? I have driven past that thing for 32 years and have always wanted to see what it is like inside.

Just wish it wasn't right on Havana...

I guess they plan on knocking it down sometime in the next few years, if they ever figure out the money situation.

Yeah, it has been touched on before. It's not interesting at all plus it is full of asbestos. Currently the city has its panty in a bunch trying to figure out what to do with it, but they are trying vehemently to get rid of it. The mural on the side is the only cool thing about it, besides its queer architectural designing which btw is really cool. I think I read somewhere someone proposed to turn it into a museum which I personally think would be a really cool thing to do.

It used to be a costco-isqe place to go, and from experience shopping plazas are only moderately interesting to explore at best. It's just a bunch of empty space.

It's definitely a unique building and worth a look see. I've never been inside, but if ya feel like it I say go for it! I'd like to see then re-use it somehow, but I doubt that will happen.

For full members only I guess

I might try to see if I can find a possible POE. I thought perhaps there could be some stuff left over from when Western Electric owned it which might be interesting. Even if there isn't much inside, I kind of want to sate the curiosity that has bugged me all these years. If and when I get in, I'll post some pics.

I was there about a month ago. It has a pretty secure fence all the way around it, maybe 50 or so feet away from the building. So, after you get past the fence, you have to walk leisurely up to the building. Also, there's NOTHING else around it, so it's pretty suspicious and out in the open.

I scouted the actual building and it's boarded AND padlocked. Granted, that doesn't mean it's a fortress, but it's not wide open by any means. Good luck with it, but it's a busy area and HIGH visibility with residential all around. I give you an 80% chance of being caught

Yeah, I grew up on Kenton and Del Mar. (very close) It used to be a nice neighborhood. Of course a lot of neighborhoods used to be nice in Aurora.

I was thinking of going during the day and wearing my hunter orange vest and my hard hat so maybe it would look like I was surveying while carrying my camera and tripod around.
I don't know. That place looks pretty well locked up and since we have the no B&E rule... Maybe I'll go check out one of the sugar factories. I saw a gaping hole in the fence at the Longmont one.

there IS a gaping hole in the fence at longmont, but the usual POEs have been bricked up solid. might be hard to get in.

Do it, I honestly don't think anyone would fuck with you if you had a hard hat and vest on, just got to look the part.

lol, secure fence. I live next to it as well and as far as fences go it's pretty lax. i don't even think there is barbwire on it. it's been a while since I've been in that specific area but my plan of action was going to be to go around the back and dismantle one of ue masterlocks. I have been paranoid of the area because it is smack in the middle of a residential and commercial area, albeit the area is kind of shitty, matters aren't really elevated by Havanna...

I think I still have pictures of insecure points and areas where the fence might be easier to cross, or if I don't I can just go get some again really quick. I was always curious to what was inside especially when I was younger except I am a little less interested now. However, I guess I am still interested.

I drove over, and got out and walked all the way around it yesterday, and it looks pretty damn doable....although there is a certain "IF" equation. You can see into a sort of dark spot, and wonder if that would mean you would be all the way in or not. I don't think the residences are much of a problem at night, and since the building is totally boarded, day is the exact same as nite inside.

I'm not unreasonably far from the area...
I'd be down if there was a solid plan put together.

The place seems like a tomb, and from the looks of the architecture could be almost entirely asbestos I don't find the neighborhood to be much of a concern myself. I like your idea of suiting up as a surveyor, that's the way to go. However some prying may be unavoidable at this location. It has always intrigued me too..

Just a month ago it looked like the back doors were blown off, now, that and some fence holes have been FIXED, and even worse, someone in a pick up truck is keeping an eye on it, and driving up close to lurkers.

This was my attempt to be casual when I realized I was being watched:

They never talked to me (the truck people, not the bunnies) but they made themselves quite known.

This place is a shit-hole; really, it is filled with bird shit. I went in once a few years back--one of the doors was wide open one day. I've never seen a door open since. I wouldn't worry about asbestos as much as the dead birds and shit--so keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to wear some sort of respiratory protection. If you guys want an idea of how to get in, I can make a suggestion (I don't know if it's still viable though). Feel free to PM me. And this place (secretdestroyers and I call it Thirty-Six due to the number of domes on the roof) was more than just the Fan Fare building--Western Electric also used it at some point.

Subduction leads to orogeny. Duh.
