Hazardous Waste

Does anyone know of a post, FAQ or have some knowledge to share regarding stuff to avoid in industrial sites? I'm thinking of chemicals, old storage containers etc. Common sense applies strongly but many hazards are undetectable, I'm thinking of a few places I've been that have unnatural colours in puddles or intense acrid odors.

buy yourself a respirator that does organic vapors and acid gas and learn what the signs mean. common sense and an acute sense of awareness will help as well.

Quo vadis?

Common sense is good. Ie:

- Make yourself aware of the common DOT hazard placards and NFPA 704 labeling (aka the Fire Diamond)

- Before you hit a site, do a few minutes of research about what the hazards typically encountered in said industry are. For example, if I was exploring a petroleum refinery, I'd want to be aware that it possibly used large quantities of sulfuric or hydrofluoric acid once upon a time, and be aware of what hydrogen sulfide was. But at a plant that made something else... well, different set of hazards.

- If you feel lightheaded, LEAVE.

Never needed anything other than that, and I've done a fair bit of industry.
