UER log book?

Snipers genrally keep log books about the shots they take, when, where, weather, target, other observations.

I suggest for those of you who go into areas that have security might want to keep a log at home.

Place
Time date
Weather
Observations of security:

Problems or mishaps

Corrections or suggestions

Infact it might be nice for you guys to share that info on here by making a thread in the DB itself. That would allow people to know what they are getting into. You may want to with hold time and date maybe say day or night. etc Or have people PM you for details.

What do you guys think

I think it's a nice way incriminate yourself if you get caught with it. I wouldn't recommend walking around with it.

I'm a dilligent journal keeper, and have actually been hassled in the past for sketching locations as it "looked suspicious" (though I sincerely expect I would have been hassled by this mean cop if I had been handing out food to orphans while singing the star spangled banner). One thing I have found, though, is that if you draw, or even use a watercolor wash, on a journal page, nobody really ever reads it. They see it as 'art' and the critical faculties of the head all turn off.

I have a small notebook that I've been writing down all the places that I want to check out in with info and maps. Once I get to start checking them out (soon I hope) I'll definately write down my observations...

On the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital board I run, I post all my visits and everything I do/encounter.. I just thought it would be a good way to tell people what I've done, never actually thought of it as a notebook. Indeed a good idea though.

i think that if you put that sort of info onto the DB, it might take away from other people's explorations. isnt finding that sort of thing out for yourself half of the fun of it?

Maybe hey found hobos in such and such watch out. Or happy hobos such and such. Cops were at building etc etc. One time event things not hey the building is such and such and such. Safety things like. The roof is really dangerous falling through on north corner.

I keep a 6" black, bound sketchbook (like you buy at an artstore) with me at all times for just such an occasion. I try and make sketches of the area, topographically if possible, and make notes about entrances, fences, dogs, whatever as well.
It's helped out a lot, especially when you have to trek over half a mile of loose black slag in the middle of the night without a flashlight (imagine the blackest enviroment possible, then multiple it by 13).
Nice thread, Mark.
Happy exploring, all.

>_< Mochi, oh well, whatever, nevermind.

Sokkia surveyors level books are great too. Only 4" x 7" x 3/4" thick and have a hard cover. They take a beating and fit in your back pocket or a side pocket of cargo pants. Pages are lined with blue rows and red columns, Headings on each page for "No.", "Date" & "Page". They are the industry standard field books for surveying, engineering and construction. Available at the Sokkia store, 1005 Stacey Court, in Mississauga. 1-800-476-5542. I believe they are 7-9 bucks each. Or any Ontario N.C. Pestil outlet should carry a similar product.

I keep mine on my laptop using MS Access and it is HEAVILY encrypted using a program I received from my cosuin who is a programmer with the US Air Force. It is set up in a fill-in the blanks format. I know the encrypting is a little much, but I like to know that my data is SECURE.

Wishing I was Jack Dalton just to have all the cool leftovers...
