You know i gotta admit HAMMER has some ideas that seem far beyond the need of the average person. Infact the fog machine seems like way to much effort for me at this time. However if I could make hevey fog Id do it. You have to remeber his ideas are great for those of us who do go to active sites on a regular basis.

No, his ideas are rubbish for anyone with half a brain. A fog machine? Please...

I go to active sites quite often, and admittedly, some of hammer's ideas arent too bad, but.... an active site.... smoke... camera.... so instead of getting nabbed by security and most likely being able to either talk your way out or evade them... it would be better to get nabbed by security, and possible the police and fire department? Even if the fog machine were left in a location to provide the cover, once security checked it out, i can almost guarantee you that 2x as many security would be checking the place out as well as the local pd...

If you must explore an active area, there are much easier and less suspicious ways... Get a UPS or FedEx uniform from a thrift store or uniform supply shop, grab a clipboard, and make a delivery that "requires" the signature of the person.... once past security, its free roaming, just look at the clipboard and occasionally ask a worker drone where an office is, as it wasnt clearly marked on your package.... for drains, local utility shirts are perfect, mix that with a hardhat and some jeans or waders, you are set... Campus? not a big issue, carry some books and dress normal, or, get a shirt from some bs electrical company as you are obviously checking on a power outage that might be caused by faulty wire that is warrantied by your bs company...

Cameras are usually the least of my worries when doing something in an active area... after hours, it becomes a valid concern, but usually a little bit of research goes a long way.. just remember to not only watch when security does make an appearance, but also see how many people walk through or into an area without security making an appearance. Make notes on their appearance, and mimic it..

Large amounts of smoke (enough to cover you) on camera, is always a bad idea... anything resembling a fire, if the cameras are monitored, is a bad idea... if the cameras arent monitored, its still a bad idea... what would be say 3 frames of you moving past a live recorded cam... becomes a huge smoke flurry and just begs anyone reviewing the tape to replay it and check it out... rem, 3 frames on ff are nothing, hell, 15 frames on ff are sometimes hard to distinguish... 120 frames or more of a rolling cloud however might raise some suspicion.

Okay, it was just a brainstorm and smoke / fog could bring out the fire department but you must admit, you wouldn't be identified (just prosecuted to the fullest extant of the law). The U.P.S. or FedEx uniform is a great idea but may not work well at 2am, how about dressing like the campus security and concealing your face with the ballcap or guard hat that you wear. The uniforms would put you back about $50 - $60 dollars, if bought new. Or maybe, dress as college nighttime maintenance and carry a box or other item in front of your face to conceal yourself as you walk by the camera. This would be a cheaper alternative and you couldn't be charged with impersonation (if college security or police have police powers).

lol i love your view of reality ups/fedex are never a good idea at 2am, but, its like i said, watch, make notes, mimic... be the chameleon!!!! be the chameleon i say!!!!

ok, sorry, long night ;)

quite frankly, you did raise a point with fog though, and, here's how to make it past almost any camera (non i/r) in a heavy fog... wear light grey, including a headwrap... on 90% of b&w cams, if you stay at least 20 feet from the cam in heavy fog, or 40-50 feet in medium/light fog...

As far as outdoor cameras, any thoughts on using a fog machine? You would need to have a power supply for it (change the AC to DC).

No no no no no. Think, then post. That's the order it goes in.

Sorry, i haven't checked back in a couple days.
We'll be in the building very late, long after the building is closed, so no one should be in there. I did go back and pretend that i was taking pictures of the hallway (there's a beautiful stained glass window in it) so that i could get an idea of the viewing range the camera had. I believe there is a way to get past the camera without being spotted at all, but i'm pretty sure that the camera will be hooked to a security tape anyway, and not a monitor that someone is watching.

Well, then, as others have said, if nothing is found missing or out of place in the building, then there is no reason to check the tape and you probably don't have to worry. I would probably still do something to conceal your faces, though, in case you set off an alarm or something.

dude, unless you've got a shot of Jagermeister to calm u, your never gonna be able to keep the laser on the camera the entire time. Plus, a frame of a guy casualy walking by is alot less suspicious than a few frames of blinding red light. Just act casual and walk by maybe?

Hey, it's me, the fog machine guy, how about a 2 - 5 million candle power cordless spotlight aimed at the camera. Easier to aim than the laser, will bloom out the camera, and may be assumed to be a camera glitch. No damage to the CCTV unit either. Are there any windows inside that room that would reveal the massive light from the spotlight, you did mention the stained glass. The hardest part would be coming around the corner and aiming the unit without getting caught on TV.

Heh, I think that's kind of missing the point. If you're going to point a bloody spotlight on it, call me crazy, but it just might look a bit suspicious. Why not just throw subtlety to the wind and smash the damn thing with a pole?

This thread has wandered from the practical into the bizarre...

He says that the camera may only be taped , not monitored, it's in a building. The spotlight would only be on , for what, 10 seconds , tops, until you get past the camera. It might draw attention but it depends on if there are windows that are present and that have the blinds up. Using a spotlight can be a valid technique.

No, it's not. This would be happening after hours, likely when the sun is down. This thread is getting pretty stupid. This isn't James Bond here. Either find a different way past the area or just walk by casually and hope they either don't watch the tapes or can't recognize you.
