| | | I was in the area, and I decided to check out the Alexandra bridge. Ok, yes, I know it's a provincial park, but it's a tiny, relatively unknown one. Besides, the bridge is just pretty. It's also been abandoned for 46 years.

| | | This bridge looks familiar I probably saw it as a kid. I wonder how long it will keep lasting?

| | | I took some shots there one night during a full moon, the towers looked very gothic in the moonlight. Of course I cant find them now that I say that.

| | | That old bridge is very visible from both the CN and CP tacks, and is a great milestone to let you know where you are, in the maze of rocks and tunnels as you wind up and down the canyon. It's a nice sight to see the old girl, a smile always crosses my lips when I see it. It stands as a beacon of days long gone, when the whistle of the stream trains would howl through the valleys. Now the bone vibrating throb of massive diesel locomotives threaten to literally vibrate the old bridge to crumble and fall deep to it's doom, into the river that is forever carving itself further towards hell.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

I LOVE ME SOME OTHELLO TUNNELZ!! I have been going there since I was a small child. Winter, with all the amazing massive icicles coming through the rock fissures is amazing. Also called the Quintette tunnels (there are five), they were built for the CPR/KVR through the roughest railway territory on earth. Situated near Kawkawa lake, (check your Canadian local bottled water, there is a good chance it comes from there), the Othello tunnels are a brilliant example of late 19th century railway engineering. Andrew McCulloch, the engineer in charge of this KVR project, (and indeed many historic Canadian railway ventures) went through the Coquihalla region, forging through solid rock, at great human cost, what was to soon to be a completed Kettle Valley railway, that had always been an integral part of the CPR in southern BC. The KVR, so close to the border, helped keep American railway interests from coming into Canada. Vancouver, and Canada, would not have been what we see today, without these projects that tempered the province.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | Sound too much like I stole that from a tourist guide? HAHA...nope, but I'm thinking about writing some! Tourists LOVE guided tours in time period costume, and they are willing to pay for it. I know others on the forum here who would do amazing work in this field.
