'Coloured Neighbourhood', IBEW local, and Brick Factory in an Atlanta Urbex (pt.1&2)

I stumbled upon this website a few days ago and immediately fell in love with it. I had always enjoyed exploring around buildings, especially abandonments, but I had never assumed there was actually a community of people who would feel likewise. As such, I grabbed a friend of mine and we revisited a couple old haunts.

This was the first of three abandoned houses in an old 'coloured neighbourhood' in Atlanta.

Someone appeared to have been living there, which kind of freaked us out. The full closet of clothes (only marginally dirty) only added to the nervousness.

Next was the church at the centre of the three houses. The roof had collapsed in on most of it, but the classrooms were still there, as well as a large pile of plastic utensils on the kitchen floor.

After the church, we looked through the last three houses. There was old mail littered everywhere. It was slightly chilling to know the names of those who had lived here before we came around.

When we got to the kitchen of the second house, there was a crowbar sitting on the table. A little rusty, but luckily no blood. We decided to leave that house pretty quickly.

From the old 'coloured neighbourhood', we travelled to an old IBEW local building. The basement held some pretty cool treasures.

The building appeared to have been abandoned in 2008 (that's what the calenders said), but apparently there had been other visitors since.

The place had been slightly demolished since the union moved across town. The links between the upstairs and downstairs were almost all gone (except for one set of creeky stairs). The upstairs had been ransacked by someone, not to mention the huge masses of rat droppings.

It was still in very good condition, and a great find indeed.

This was a pretty good couple finds for our first expedition. I looked through the forums and I figure this is how I should present the photos and all, but let me know if I should do something different.

(Pt.2)

We decided to check out the brick factory near-by the next day. Before we began our assault, I first had to piss. While finding a preferable spot in the woods, I came across a geocache. Note: I did not piss on it.

The first structure in sight turned out to be the storage facility for the powder I guess they used to make the bricks. The roof had a great view of the place, but I didn't take a picture of the view for some reason.

From there we went through the samples building, still full of every kind of brick you could want.

The eyewash solution had a fly at the bottom of the bottle. Real nice.

Although there were much easier and much more obvious ways into the office, I guess someone decided a brick through the window was a better idea.

There were also about four or five piles of keys like this. They probably opened just about every damn door there.

We stumbled across some photos of the people who used to work there. Pretty cool.

The shower room of the lockers. The lockers were all a mess, but the shower room was very clean.

I'm not sure what this cage was used for, so I can only assume brick factories are staging grounds for spider monkey cage fights.

I'll say it was supremely worth the visit.

Just a word of advice, the pop-up photo gallery built into UER sucks and many people hate it. It's better to upload the shots to another website and post small size versions and a link for people to look at/
