| | | New to Portland! < on 6/1/2010 12:53 AM >
| | | Hey there, I'm a seasoned urban explorer from Dayton, Ohio. Long time lurker, first time poster. I just moved to Beaverton, OR. Looking for other explorers to help me find those sweet spots out here. I hardly know anyone out here and would love to get involved in the UER community here and around the rest of the PNW. I love the area as it's got everything for me as I'm a tech savvy outdoorsman however it seems the spots to explore are few and far between in the PDX... at least on the surface. ;) Anyone in the area up for a meet and greet, maybe some exploration? I hear there are awesome amounts of abandoned farm houses/barns in Washington?

| | | Thank you sir. So far the chat has been rather hospitable. Let's work out that meet and greet we were talking about some time and if you know other Urbex'ers in the area to invite please do so!

| | | Thanks.
So I hear of a mill? Sucks about the missing kid. It really sucks for the family and friends but on a way lesser level it sucks for explorers wanting to get out and explore because any activity late at night is suspicious and more so with a kid missing.

| | | we had a kid show drowned up near the dam that feeds the paper mill if thats what your referring to. dangerous place to explore especially when its wet. the paper mill has a pretty good place im scouting to explore, currently abandoned chemical plant that the cops and SWAT use for training nowadays has ladders to the top and everything. however it is quite out in the open so its probably gonna be a night trip for me.

| | | I'm way down in Happy Valley. Does anyone know of any good abandoned building/drain/doghouse in Portland? From what I've seen, we never tear anything down, just reuse it. I'm all for recycling but I mean c'mon! We can't let Washington have all the fun places ya know?

| | | Soo we have another new Portlander. Excellent. I've been really busy with schedules changing and what not. I'd love to explore around here. There is that evangelical center I would love to hit up. I found an old Grange that I explored near Hillsboro. We all need to hammer something down maybe in a couple weeks as a solid meet at a location and then discuss locations and what not and then maybe go explore some.

The last time I was in Portland (which was months ago), there were a bunch of cranes up. Get climbin'! Although judging by the regional forums, nobody in the NW really cares about rooftops or cranes. =\ All those cranes... just going to waste... a tragedy.

Meh, roof tops aren't all that exciting. There are parking structures where the roof top is also usable and quite frankly, roof tops aren't all that different. Cranes at construction sites are usually not a good idea. Tool and copper theft is rampant, so they're quite well secured.

I like roof tops... the views are usually nice in larger cities, and it's fun just to be above everything else. But to each their own. Construction sites must be very different out there then. The ones in the South and MidWest that I've done haven't been all that well secured at all (edit: oh, and the ones in Toronto were cake). Usually there are gaps in fences or areas where you can get in pretty damn easily (parking garages are usually quick ways in). If the building is up high enough, you can take it to the bridge to the crane on a floor closer to the top. Go late on a weekend and you're unlikely to run into workers. Most don't have guards either, or the guard stays in his little area or on the first couple floors. And as far as I know, copper theft is pretty bad most places. =) [last edit 8/25/2010 11:19 PM by bouncewiggle - edited 1 times]
