Some place, somewhere.

First things first; While I did accompany the person who took these photographs, I am not the person who actually took the photographs. She said it was fine if I used her photos, as long as I credited her with them.

SO, ANYHOW. This has probably been documented, but doing a search on this site didn't turn up anything, so here goes (possibly literally) nothing. This is my first non-draining UE, so please bear with me.

First off, when looking for a good access point, we came across some areas that seemed open to the public. Not exactly what we were coming in for, but hey, why not take a look, right?

Gotta say, I wasn't quite expecting to see a ritual space. Some of the symbols here are Norse runes, others are Wiccan symbols. And I claim to know nothing of them. :/

Aaaaanyhow, so we eventually got to the main building that everyone goes to. On our way into the main building from our access point, we noticed a couple oddities. First off, the power was on in some areas. Unexpected, but perhaps not that unexpected. It happens, right? Well, as we were continuing on, we hit oddity number 2: the server room. Nothing particularly odd about a server room, right? Weird thing is, it was still active. LEDs on multiple devices showed a functioning network connection.

Weird.

Well, anyhow, the main building wasn't particularly interesting past a certain point. Patient rooms can be only so interesting. Some of the rooms had some cool stuff in them, though.

This was on the back of a VHS case. Guy looks creepy as heck to me.

So, umm, yeah. Questions, comments, flames?

Holly hell, if I found an abandoned place, then a room with rack servers still running I would so be back with a laptop. Sounds like something straight out of X-Files

We actually found a couple of those. I figure it's because it used to be a VA hospital, and the recovering vets needed target practice or something, I dunno.

Our theory is that someone hooked up minimal power (Those fluorescent lights should have burned out a long time ago, so we guess that someone has been in and replacing them. Obviously nobody official, considering that there's still tons of broken glass and such on the floor.) and got the server room up and running so they could use it to hack something, or use the place as a proxy to mislead someone trying to track them.

Then again, I know only slightly above the minimum when it comes to hackers, so I dunno.

In regards to the runes, I know a little about them: looks like this person knew a certain amount as well especially if this was home to whomever wrote them on the wall...I can tell by certain combinations and most of these can be taken to mean the same things. However the one on the far left isn't even a rune used by the Norse so I don't know what it means or is, unless it's a sigel or a wiccan symbol in which case I can't make it out but all the others are all runes...the one next to and below it is sideways or at least it looks that way anyway, could of been an error when spraying it for all I know though. The row of them at the bottom looks like an attempt at a runic spell or talisman of some sort considering it doesn't spell anything and it ends in Jera (Yar-awe) which means to make events to come to pass or reap rewards of something. It was probably intended as a protection spell but could also be taken as a power spell even, but more then likely meant protection.

The other recognizable runes scattered everywhere mostly symbolize protection, safe travels, protection of goods, protection from evil, monetary gain, etc...there was one that kind of stands out to me as unusual and its a rune called Lagaz (La-gaz)...it's a Female rune and doesn't really symbolize protection over anything or safe travels like the others, it's more of a rune of knowledge and understanding...so either this was home to a woman who believed these runes would help protect her and her things or perhaps this specific rune was intended to mean a gain of knowledge considering the books on the shelf next to the symbol but I'm not sure. Just sounds like someone wanted protection from harm and theft and for safe travels for whoever lived there and also for whomever passed through but not for anyone with bad intent to pass through.

OR it could of just been someone who was like hey I know runes, why not spray paint them here and show it off...could of also just been random runes someone picked and sprayed cuz they liked how they looked cool...ya never know. But I think it'd be pretty cool if there was some squatter who knew their druid magic and was knowledgeable in that area, not too many people I know are familiar with it so I would be impressed. From the look of the selection of runes they may very well of been intentionally selected for protective purposes though.

Anyway, very cool place, nice find...I've never stumbled across runes while exploring but I wish I could of found or seen this. Very nice. I have however stumbled across that same criminal target used by police in an abandoned building like some others on here were saying too, those are always scary moments cuz ya never know if the cops are on their way back to practice more or not.

That is very unlikely. Without knowing the history of the place, it is hard to say, but I would guess the network equipment is still running simply because power was never disconnected and it was never turned off or someone still goes there once in a while.

This is actually really common. Network and phone equipment is usually fairly specific to the network layout and hence the building it is installed in. Often it is also old and not worth removal and sale. It is still useful and kept running until the last person leaves the building, at which point it is just forgotten and nobody bothers to turn it off.

Plus, phone equipment may be kept running for emergency use if the building is ever used at all (ex. for police training).

love the photos! i visited there a few months ago and it is a pretty cool place. we ran into this guy and his little kid carrying a six pack of beer (it was around 1pm on a sunday). the grounds definitely seem pretty accessible but there was some kind of police activity going on in a building behind the main building. anyone know what thats about?

heres some images from my trip there

If you mean the building I think you do, that one is active. It's an outpatient clinic, and it's still in use.

ooh that makes sense. cool thanks for clearing that up. it did seem pretty active but strange that it was hiding behind such a big empty hospital.
