Debatable. Myself and many others have researched, found, and accessed many previously unknown drains (which are also tunnel systems) to great reward (subjective). I would say that hardcore, determined drain exploration may actually require more effort than some ordinary tunnels.

| | | Posted by Elemental Oh! I remember reading something about this in another thread. And apparently there's an abandoned mining entrance in riverbend by Promontory Point. There's a lightly beaten foot path leading off the road into the ravine by the bank somewhere, and by there is a mining shaft. I haven't been there but i've been wanting to chase this lead for a little while now. Anyone else heard of this one too?
|
I took a trip there tonight and we couldn't find it....we scoured the area....we did however find 2 outfalls. I think the mine shaft you speak of is now outfall 9. as there were mine shaft like boards and iron forming a door....but it was cemented over for an outfall.... Unfortunately we did not have cameras..... we should go back with a crew and make a search party.
p.s can you link that thread that you saw?

| | | I've tried boolean searches and all the like, and have had no luck. I think it may have been archived since I last saw it, but I'm having a hard time tracking it down. At least your endeavor wasn't a total loss though?

| | | Outfall 9 is a sweet drain, the other outfall there is small 1500mm going down to 1200mm in a a short distance. Outfall 9, definately is not an old mine. [last edit 5/2/2010 10:02 AM by Capt Canada - edited 1 times]

Yea we saw the other one, the only problem with outfall 9 is it goes up the side of the hill..... that and you would have to do some swimming to get into it. from the riverside anyways.
Shall we put together a crack team of scouts? scour the area?

Indubitably. But really...didja hear about the guy who plunged three floors etc. etc. last year. There's something about it in the UER archives. It might have been four floors. I don't recall...ANYWAY my point is that this isn't the sort of hobby where you have a natural aversion to risk. Hopefully, when you engage on such generally-above-average-risk adventure, you bring along an ample supply of common sense, and the self-awareness that confronting such risk may result in catastrophe.
