	Wonderful pics Snide, especially of my drunken escapades . I'm certainly going to stay more sober on future expeditions though, it's not my style to get shit faced and explore dangerous places. However an exception had to be made in honor of a member of this community who I unfortunately did not have the chance to meet before his untimely demise. In memory of Kasper aka Warcrimes, my heart goes out to those who will miss him and may he rest in peace. So I'm H4wXx (pronounced Hawks) btw, and since my 72 hour probation is up I'm going to be around plenty so don't hesitate to approach me if you need an exploration companion . 	This drain is so heat right now. I was there tonight to recon a bit, and the cops were there in force, hiding around the park. I seriously suggest that nobody goes for a while. There are other entrances that we know of now, so please, just don't use the flood hause. my eyez iz greenz with enviez

	I think there is more hype over this since our friend passed away. I believe they are also concerned with the whole " you guys are getting away with something we don't like" bit. It shouldn't be a big deal now, since we have found another entrance, but it would be good to keep tight lipped about locations and other key pieces of information. I am in the works of setting up a meet in about a week or so. Post your availability on the New Edmonton Crew thread. That will be the new EUR official thread for stuff like meetings and other info. 	Attention all , on my way home this mornin i looked in the drain , theres about 6-8inches of water running through it , i would highly advise against venturing in there this weekend , as you may be swept over the drop off . that is all

This is a bad idea. That drop (and any of the drops in Edmonton) are long enough to maim you if you fall. The lower sewer levels are hard to get into and out of, and are more dangerous to be in.

False. Do not kid yourself.
Research what people have done for other drain SRT setups. If you can't recognize that this is a bad idea, you shouldn't be doing it.

	Yea, I wouldn't even consider going down there unless i'm with someone with the climbing experience and already has been down there. Which by the way, is an excellent idea to do some looking around for.

You tell me this as if I'm some sort of idiot. I'm not. I'm perfectly aware that a drop from even 15 feet has the capability to seriously injure a person and that simply being in a storm drain is an extremely risky endeavour, let alone descending to a lower level of one that has no guaranteed exits (you know, seeing as how water finds the path of least resistance and all).

I'm also aware of the instability of a rope with ladder loops in it and how difficult they can be to climb, like I said I'm not an idiot. I threw that out there as an idea for further examination, not as a factual statement of what I was actually doing. I still have to go back there to properly assess the situation and adapt accordingly, like with any undertaking of that magnitude.

Both yours and digital_me 's (especially digital_me 's) remarks came off rather scathingly, so in future maybe try being kinder instead of just assuming I know nothing.

	To add, if I had a climbing harness, a gri-gri, a pulley, and 300 feet of climbing rope, I would gladly use those for ascending and descending a drop. However I do not so I'm forced to make do with various climbing knots and things that I can manufacture myself out of rope, which is a great many variety of things. I love the advertisement in the right fork of the groat drain redux. Lovely work. lol. As you have been down there, How did you find the air quality further down. I am planning a venture, but smelling foul eggs smell in there on friday night, I am a little leary of going too far without proper equipment.

	If you are smelling rotten eggs get out immediatly, that is H2S and the only masks to deal with those are full face supplied air masks called SCBA's (not SCUBA) it will kill you almost immediatly if the levels are high enough and even 15ppm will kill you over prolonged exposure times (rule of thumb is if you can smell it its too much). The biggest danger is not from these gasses it's actually from lack of oxygen, it is undetectable without equipment. Some gear to look into getting if your gonna run deep in the tunnels would be this: Gas Detector (You want one that will at least monitor for H2S, CO, O2) It's very expensive but this one is good for Draining and about anything else you feel like --- MONITOR MX4 LEL CO H2S O2 LI-ION $599.00 Available at Acklands-Grainger in Edmonton Sorry if I sound like a over cautious person but if you are overcome by something in these tunnels then you will probably die cause no one would be able to assist you in time, remember it only takes 5 minutes with no oxygen to cause brain damage, less if there are other gasses at work. just thought i would share this info with you.

	The North 7583P100's are not rated for H2S, though if they were they would only be suitable for escape only and not prolonged exposure. They are however great for any organic nasties that would get us sick, and the listed chemical vapours. Wish I would have been wearing mine when we went into the pigeon shit house, as I believe I have contracted Norovirus. On a side note Snide, once I secure employment I'll be buying climbing harnesses, gri-gri's, a heavy duty pulley, and about 500' of 7200 lb test rope. Plus I'm going to look into a gas sniffer and getting a supplied air system that can be used by multiple people (not sure if one exists). So the Edmonton Underground Rats should be set for any future adventures once I get that done. Edit: I also feel that I should clarify that in my above posts that I was in a bad mood and I didn't mean to offend anyone or seem like I was being a dick, and I've taken the above advice about not using improvised means of ascent/descent to heart as should be reflected in this post. 	Kay. Then. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I saw H2S and assumed it would work. I don't believe we are dealing with H2S gases down there, I think like the germ said its probably methane. 	I also hope that we all can find the time to purchase these masks that I mentioned above, before we return to the plant, if we decide to go back. There have been strange illnesses felt since the Shitty Bird House experience, and I would hate for anyone to die as a result of improper use or lack there of ppe. Just like factories and industrial companies implement the use of PPE ( personal protective equipment ), I believe that we in the EUR could all benefit from the use and better understanding of the PPE available to us. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources that these aforementioned companies have at thier disposal, so any training or equipment costs will have to be eaten up by us on a personal level. ( Unless we somehow get some sort of sponsorship, I don't forsee this happening). Another thing that has crossed my mind is STICKERS. We should all chip in and get a good solid sticker made that we can place during our UE's. Just an Idea. Stickers would look better than _____________! Anyway, if anyone is interested, I can take a look at costs for courses that deal in training for these types of dangers, or for whatever else we may need like rappeling or first aid or anything. It would be far better to be prepared mentally for an emergency than to not know anything about preventative measures or how to deal with it. A very long winded message.
