| | | Longmont Flour Mill on the chopping block < on 4/8/2010 9:56 PM >
| | | Today is a bad day. First the Eaton sugar factory and now the Longmont flour mill. Last February a couple kids set fire to the place which caused major structural damage (big, big fire http://www.timesca...8_FLOUR_MILL_FIRE/). I was pretty happy to hear the owner was going to fix the damage and leave the building, but it looks like the city is forcing his hand. I have been there a couple times. Sketchy place with shank wielding squatters, but very cool structure. Sad to see it go. http://www.timesca...Story.asp?ID=21133 [last edit 4/8/2010 9:59 PM by EasyNameToRemember - edited 2 times]

| | | Ah, yeah. Kimtastic and I just drove by that the other day. It is TRASHED! I wish we would have seen it before it got burned so badly. We just found out about it. Bummers.

| | | I'll have to get scanned the photos I took there about 18 months ago, shortly before the fire. It was a very neat place inside, almost no graffiti, almost no vandalism.

Post em up when you get the chance. I was there a couple years ago. It was sketchy when I went. It was pretty obvious that squatters had been there for a while and I saw no less than 3 homemade shanks lying around. Since I was alone, I didn't want to come across a shank yielding hobo (unlike a pleasant singing hobo), so I didn't stick around long. I went back with a buddy a while later and they had boarded it up pretty tight. It's a shame that vandals could destroy a building that has been around for a hundred years and get away with minimal punishment. Longmont has wanted to get rid of that building for a while, so it must be a conspiracy!
