| | | Nice. I guess an old, rickety mine would not be the best place to experience an earthquake.

| | | Sweet fisheye action. Good news you weren't down there in the quake! Have you investigated the extent of the damage underground?

No, this was today, and the quake would have been just minutes after I got back to my car. I didn't feel a thing about 1.5 hours east of Phoenix. This mine is falling apart without any help. It collapsed partly 3 months ago while I was in it, and had more damage today. I don't think I'll be going back there anymore.

| | | Posted by qwerty05 I left this mine about an hour before the earthquake. I didn't feel it above ground though, did anyone from here, in AZ, notice?
|
Theres also a thread about this in the pacific southwest chapter. I guess people were down in a mine in california too. Glad your not hurt. Safe huntings.
*EDIT* I love the photos. That looks like a fun place. [last edit 4/5/2010 4:10 AM by Cowboy - edited 1 times]

If you are referring to my post on the Mojave trip thread, that was deliberate. Seemed like something to keep an eye on for the mine explorers. http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/ [last edit 4/5/2010 4:59 AM by qwerty05 - edited 2 times]

This hobby is inherently dangerous.. even tho mine exploration is more dangerous than many other explores. But think about draining or crane-climbs, those are pretty fookin dangerous too. I think it's best to educate people about the dangers (which there are many) and make sure they are as prepared as they can be instead of just saying "Don't go!". Because no one is going to listen, just like we don't listen to the signs saying stay out or you'll die, or the no trespassing signs! Just my two ¢

I've always wanted that on a bumper sticker. Do they make them? And thank you insanebuslady. To all, I am quite aware of the dangers, I've been at it a while.

That danger is half the fun. Plus I work 100 feet in the air with out a harness. Mines really don't scare me. But just my opinion.

Hey, I know- lets all become mine rescuers! That way we can go in mines all the time, and not be called irresponsible by mine rescuers!

Crack in the Highway
Altar sand dunes shifting in the quake.
Another picture of the dunes.

| | | Nice pics and I'm glad you guys were safe. Although I sat in my house surfing the net when the quake started. I felt a small shake and yelled to everyone that their was an earthquake and at that moment the quake got bigger and stronger. After 45 seconds it was over and we all got together and went outside to do some damage control and lucky for us we only have a few cracks on one side of the house and nothing else. Since the 7.2 quake, out of over a couple of hundred aftershocks I only felt 9. My location Otay Lakes, Ca. just under 100 miles from Calexico, Ca.
