| | 20 Feet down a grated man hole cover... < on 3/28/2010 7:36 PM >
| | | Me and my buddies were hanging around the light rail Lincoln Station (in Lone Tree CO) and walked across a grated man hole cover. I like draining, so we popped the cover and headed down a ~20 foot ladder, the tallest one ive gone down so far, but it was too dark so we left. We came back with flash lights and water boots and were amazed at what we found. Its the biggest under ground room ive ever seen. The ceiling is 20 feet above us, and the room is approximately the dimensions of a small movie theater. The echo is so obnoxious and loud that it was hard to understand someone talking unless they were closer then 10 feet from me. There are like 6 or 8 pillars dispersed inside. There are 2 grated man hole covers that can get you in. When we went there was like 3 inches of water so it wasnt bad. The only interesting thing about this is the fact that its so big. The only exit for the water is a pipe on the west end, and its only about 6 inches wide. The only entrance for water is through the grated man hole covers or a 4 foot RCP 10 feet off the ground on the east side. I havent been in that one yet. Its fairly knew so theres no graffiti at all, in fact i think me and my buddies are the only ones to have gone down there since it was made. Anyways, its interesting if youre in the area, and its super easy to get to. Just go to the Lincoln light rail station. Heres the coords for anyone thats interested: 39.545500, -104.870376 Google maps is no help, the picture is out dated, but its in a parking lot. I dont currently own a digital camera but i took some pictures with my phone.
Check it out if youre in the area, its pretty cool. [last edit 3/28/2010 8:02 PM by kraig - edited 2 times]
"Is that the entrance to the drain?" "Yeah" "It's right behind the police station." "Oh. Maybe we should go to a different one..." |

| | | That's cool, are they storm drains? Or like old steam tunnels?

| | | Neat find! I'd assume it's a storm water retention room of some kind. It stinks that they're not always attached to giant drainage systems.

| | | At my old job we had these..ours was actually a "tank" of sorts. It took water from other rooms like this when the drains couldn't hold the water. We had to go down there once a year and suck all the mud out with an intense vacuum hose. But ours however didn't have a ladder..we got lowered down..all ninja like.

Yeah thats what we were thinking, just slows down the water and forces it through a tiny tube. We were really excited when we first found it, thinking it would be a long tunnel or have more tubes connected, but there's only and they're not interesting.
