| | Give me you hardest... < on 3/26/2010 5:58 AM >
| | | I started messing around with DSLRs toward the end of last year. Till then I had never picked up a still camera. I had played around, a little, with video, though. Anyway, I got a D3000 for the holidays and have been posting in the SW forum. I picked out my favorites and hope to get some opinions. I have never used any post until I started cropping a few sets ago (2,9,12,13). So give me you hardest I'm not fragile.

| | | #4 is spectacular, the rest are kinda meh. Like mentioned before, less posted will yield better results next time. [last edit 3/26/2010 3:12 PM by Protios - edited 1 times]

| | | I need a general review of what I'm doing wrong and right. If you wanna focus on a single picture that is great also. But I've turned these in to show what I've done and ask what I need to do to better to improve my skills. If this is not the place then I'll move them elsewhere and ask for feed back, there.

| | | On a technical level, I don't really see much wrong with them, they're all pretty crisp, in focus etc... Some of them might be a tad under exposed but that's a matter of opinion I suppose. I would suggest reading some articles online or grab some books on composition because quite a few of these are "boring" compositionally. Other than that, just keep shooting and like previously mentioned, only post a few photos at a time.

| | | I'm a beginner as well so take my comments with a grain of salt. . . 5 is really awesome. I might have used the rule of thirds there though. I'd have to see the surrounding landscape. 10 is great, having the backlighting really brings out details and textures. I used to do a lot of shots like 8: lots of little lights. It seemed logical that I'd be able to control create an even spread of lighting better. Instead I ended up feeling like every shot looked flat. Now I go with one big light; I get deep shadows and lots of unexposed black zones. I still like the effect better for the details preserved though. I'm sure there is a happy medium between the two techniques though. In six I think it would be cool to have the camera lower to the ground and the shot tried with a vertical orientation. I'd be trying to maximize the imposing effect the castle has on the figure. I really mess with the image settings for shots with a lot of desert in them. Otherwise the landscape just seems so flat. Try bracketing with extreme values for hue, saturation, and contrast. I got a D3000 about a month ago. We'll have to mess around with them in April.

| | | Quite a few photos, damn. Overall I don't feel as though there's anything really interesting about them. Your composition needs work, but otherwise it looks like you're doing of technically.
It's all foreign to me. |

| | | I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to the technical aspect, but I REALLY like three and four. Sorry that I can't add much to help you improve, I just felt compelled to let you know.

| | | 1, 8, 10. I like caves and tunnels, and they're good photos. As long as you can find interesting places/things to photograph (like those caves/mines/what ever) then I think you will do well.
"Is that the entrance to the drain?" "Yeah" "It's right behind the police station." "Oh. Maybe we should go to a different one..." |
