Along the banks of the Thames in London, facing the cultural and arts area of The South Bank, is one of London's finest five star hotels, with history covering 3 centuries, from it's inception in 1889. It's currently undergoing a £100m ($150m) renovation, due to be completed for opening in June 2010.

The architect was Thomas Edward Collcutt, for Richard D'Oyly Carte who owned the site and the Saveloy* Theatre which already stood on the site. The profits from the Gilbert & Sullivan shows Carte put on, financed the building of the hotel. Guests in the hotel have included Claude Monet, King Edward IIV, Harry Truman, Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan (who filmed Subterranean Homesick Blues in an alley that bi-sects the hotel.)

With most of the hotel covered in building materials, and protective wood. There's not a huge lot to see internally. Downfallen's Thread on another site gives much better pics, he got in before work started. For me the views on the roof made the trip

Very nice, I like the stairs shot! I can always appreciate walking around in hotels. That is, in the areas that are off-limits to the guests, and of course all areas that are off-limits to non-guests as well.

Ah, the sweet temptation of the forbidden hotel spa
