Police investigating weekend rave 01 February 2010 Bedford Beacon

Officers assigned to the HRP Liquor Enforcement Unit (LEU) are investigating a rave which took place Saturday night.

The Unit, assisted by Community Response Officers and Patrol Officers, tracked the rave one to two kilometers through the woods to an abandoned bunker at York Redoubt.

Officers encountered several disoriented young people, not dressed for the weather, in the woods. Police estimate 120 young people were in attendance and also discovered the lock on the gate to the bunker had been cut off.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services was called in regards to an unresponsive female who had to be removed from the area by sled and taken to hospital.

Officers shut down the event and the investigation is continuing. At this time no determination on charges has been made.

These events are concerning to police but more so in this case because of the remote location and the cold temperatures.

Access to the location was difficult, there was no apparent first aid available and it appeared that the majority of people in attendance were planning to remain there until the buses started running the next morning.

This serves as a reminder to parents to know where their kids are, who they are with and what they are doing.

I have a friend who is a DJ. He was, apparently, booked for this event. He was supposed to do a set at 3am. It was busted long before then so he knew not to bother to head out. Technically, whoever booked him should still be paying him.

They were down at York Shore Battery. They must have used bolt cutters to open up access to the battery since it was deemed unsafe and fenced off with chain-link.

Anyone have a recent photo of the fencing around the battery?

Not if they have a truck and bolt cutters to get past the gate near the church and the lock on the York Shore fence.

Ahh, wasn't aware there was a road going right to there, I've only ever wandered around the upper park area.

These cops seem to have too much time on their hands. Not eager to move to NS ( in 6 months...)

The rave scene in Montreal is booming and sometimes cops show up, but most of the time they let the event go on as long as no one is dying or neighbors complaining.

Those boneheads were running generators indoors and temperatures were in double digit negatives. Carbon monoxide. One girl had to be brought out on a sled. It appears no one was dressed for the weather. There were no washrooms or sources of fresh water. Or how about 120 teenage tweekers on a cliffside?

York Redoubt is a National Historic Site.. These guys cut a lock on a main gate, likely drove vehicles through a wooded footpath, and then cut their way into a condemned bunker.. And brought 120 friends. If Montreal cops ever overlook illegal raves at at NHS out there, you be sure to let us know.

back'd. I was part of the rave scene in Montreal in 1999-2000 and i've been to parties the police shut down and they weren't at all dangerous as this. sure it sucked, but we just went elsewhere.

despite the fact this is a national historic side, if the cops showed up and then did nothing and people died from hypothermia, hydration (because i'm sure drugs were involved), carbon monoxide poisoning or people falling off the cliff then there'd be a huge outrage of why they didn't do anything. although i think the cops should've done something to get some of these kids back to the city.

What I think they should have done was round up a spare Metro Transit bus, load them all up for the return trip the city, and then ticket every occupant on the bus for trespassing... Because you can't ticket them all for stupidity.

In the article I read in the paper, it said police knew about the rave before hand and watched a group of kids get on a specific bus at a specific time and simply followed the tracks into the woods where it was being held. I think the whole thing could of been prevented a lot sooner really.

cjb is going to get eaten alive in NS.

From what I can tell, he's one of those Quebec'y rabid francophone types.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Despite the fact it's a national historic site, and all that jazz, I think if it had of been done right, would have been one hell of a party. But that's just me, when someone was telling me about it, I figured it was up in the old ammo bunkers.

My first thought was like, what a hell of a place for a party, then I read they had gennies inside with 120 people, someone clearly wasn't thinking.
