Day or Night?

Is it better to explore abandonments during the day or night? During the day your much more likely to be seen going in, but at night flashlights/camera flashes are much more visible from the outside. I've only done one abandonment so far, and we went in around dusk so of course going in I was thinking to myself "its way to light out for this" but once we were in and it was dark I kept hating how I had to limit my light usage. Obviously drains are a different story altogether.

Day is easier to get pictures, night you would either have to light paint, use flash or do a really long exposure with ambient light.

I do my scouting at night, find/make my entrance and plan it for a daytime entry. I find exploring is easier during the day.

If you are going to explore at night, watch your flashlight near windows and try to use a red light when at all possible.

Also I suggest reading the forums as this question has been asked a billion times.

QFT. Search button does wonders.

In answer to your question, the problem with night is that if you are spotted, you look much more suspicious. I also hate, hate, hate shooting abandonments at night. That's just me. My preference is to do it during the day (but scouting at night doesn't hurt). It's also easier to explain your way out of trouble if you're caught with "we got lost," or "we saw it from the side of the road and were curious," or some such, than if you're caught trespassing at 1 AM.

injektilo put the main deciding factors pretty well. The only thing I would add is that, in my opinion, pre-dawn entrance is the best of all worlds. Go in under cover of dark, then have the morning light to photograph by and not have to worry about flashlight control.

Of course, dawn is early as hell. Who's bright idea was it to overlap prime exploring time with prime sleeping time?!

Be careful, not safe.

I had actually considered dawn. Also I did search twice, once in text and I got 3000 results about and I searched by name and got nothing. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Regardless though thanks for the input, I had never taken suspiciousness into consideration.
