Dust masks are useless garbage & gas masks are for gas. I think you want a respirator. One of these?

They are available @ Home Depot. You can evan find them cheaper. I would upgrade to a p100 filter. This will keep out the asbestos & other airborne nasties. These are for particulates in the air NOT for low oxygen situations. Hope this helps.

If you get one you might as well shell out the extra $10 it will cost to get a multigas cartridge.

You will find it will help in situations where its not just particulate but other stuff like Ammonia or Tear gas or what have you.. comes in handy now and then and goes on your mask at the same time as the p100 filters

Hate to tell you this though. It only makes you more of a target. They see that the tear gas isnt going to work so they can escalate the force on you.

So i say, Merah!

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

So are the P100 filters enough for asbestos? I would really like to find one that is more compact but also protects me 100% from asbestos exposure. I don't like the bulkiness of the ones I've worn that do, especially when I have to squeeze through small areas. Anyone know where I could find one like that?

*asbestos is the most dangerous when it is disturbed by touching or stiring it up into the air. wet asbestos cannot become airborne, but it can stick to you and your clothing and become airborne later when it is dry.

unless you are walking through plies of dry pipe insulation kicking it up into the air or hanging from old asbestos covered pipes there will be very little in the air, as long as you are not spending an extended period of time in these areas the p100 should be fine.

For lighter-weight asbestos-only protection I'd recommend a 3M 6000 respirator and "pancake" filters.

The multigas cartridges are heavy and I only wear them when I absolutely have to and I don't bother with a respirator much anymore anyways. Asbestos doesn't scare me ... high quantities of bird shit warrants a respirator more.

Though I had mine + 60926 filters with me today for the ubertoxic location I went too ... but found the floors to be worse than the air.

3M 6000 (half face mask cheapie respirator)
3M 60926 (most extensive 3m cartridge -- offers best protection)
3M 2097 (pancake filters )
