| | | | Looking for a good respirator. < on 11/24/2009 5:31 PM >
| | | There are many reasons not to trust a site that sales things such as these, such as quality of the item, sharing your info with the wrong people, etc. I am searching for where to buy a good respirator from a place I can trust. I found some really good ones on some sites like LSS, but I don't know if I can ever trust the site or not. Can someone share where a good place is to buy respirators?

| | | I got mine from gallawaysafety.com Paid about $20 for a 3m half-face respirator and 2 packs of regular p100 filters. They also carry a huge assortment of cartridges good for various vapors plus particulate.

| | | Velcro's got it right - 3m 6000 half-mask with some P100 cartridges. DiscountSafetyGear made me happy, although they only have P100+Organic Vapor currently.

If by LSS you mean Lab Safety Supply, that is a 100% trustworthy site, I've used them for over 10 years professionally. Their prices are generally good and they don't sell garbage.

Negative, even Home Depot may not (my local one doesn't). The dust masks you'll see in most hardware stores are useless against asbestos, so are disposable N95/P95 masks. Need to have a half-face mask with P100 filters.

| | | I got my gasmask at Home Depot. The guy looked at me funny when I asked if it protected against asbestos.

| | | I got my mask and a set of gloves I use for winter climbing (metal is cold in -50) at the same time from a home depot. The hired help looked at me oddly when I told him the P95 mask he had just handed wasn't good enough and I needed p100, then he looked at me oddly again when I decided to test out the new gloves on some metal racking behind me. The gloves passed, and the p100 mask was purchased. HOWEVER it was a piece of crap and I'm already missing part of the clasp for it, I know I'm 'not allowed to' but I'm modifying it so it fits better/has better clasps The gloves on the other hand are my new best friends. Grippy.

Mind sharing what kind of gloves? I was looking at the ninja brand work gloves at discount safety gear, but if you know anything better that's cheaper, please share.
