Pics? Usually surveyors markings/contractors markings. Even the Police leave such markings when they use the building for training.

Yeah that's what i immediately thought of. If i remember correctly the game was called Burpee, and it was pretty much baseball played against a wall with the box being the strike zone.

Now i could be way off aswell, but that's what comes to mind.

I never saw those until I moved to Toronto and I have no idea what the game is called so it was hard to search for an image.

It's also used for Wallball
Basically that's Baseball with the wall being used as the backstop and the box is the Strike Zone.

That's what I used it for at least.
Good for when you have only about 3 or more people to play baseball with.

edit: (rofl and I just realized I posted the exact same thing as 2 posts ago.. )

I agree that if it is what argonian posted it is for ghetto baseball as we called it in my neck of the woods. If up higher then a strike zone or in a place obviously to cramped for a ball game, I'd say a survey mark of some sort.

Here in Mass. there's actual signs posted on the sides of buildings with a red X, or red slash through them. These are always high up in plain view, much too high to be used for any strike zone for sure. The meanings here are for the police/fire personnel when there's an incident in that building. The red X, which I was able to find a couple pics I had in my collection, means that building is unsafe to enter and no personnel should be entering. the slash on the other hand means that the building was deemed unsafe but is safe enough to enter at the personnel's own risk, so they can make their own choice, either enter and possibly fall through a floor...etc. or wait around outside the place. Obviously some personnel don't follow that protocol if they know there's kids messing around in some locations, but usually firefighters follow it to a T and even won't enter "slashed" buildings.

basically what Lord said...

its called "tard-baseball"!
its played with 3 people or players...
someone spray-paints a square on the wall, with an "X" in it.

how to play:
there is 3 players- one hitter, a pitcher and a out-fielder or catcher.
you get points for hitting the ball a "set" distance, and in conjunction with the amount of time it take the catcher to get the ball.

-the pitcher pitches a ball to the hitter; if the ball hits outside the box- its a ball, if the ball hits inside the box its a strike. (there is 3 strikes per player)

its almost like "shit-plop", each of the 3 players keeps their own score.
*i am not surprized that this generation of people has no idea of any games played outside of the internet...?
-UNPLUG yourselves and see the real world around you!

this "X-box" has nothing to do with video games, hurricane katrina or UEing!

~shakes head it shame, for the human race and what its coming to...

logtec, if you look at the linked image the OP provided a few posts back, you'll see it isn't for that game as it is way above head height.

Here you go. Apparently its a FEMA symbol. It is part of the Federal Building Marking System. It means the building is structurally unstable. An empty box means ok, a box with 1 slash going through means the building has potential for structural problems.

Check out this PDF it shows all the symbols.

http://dart.arc.na...n/BUILDI~1Rev1.pdf

On page 9 you'll find the marking in question. Enter those buildings with extreme caution is all I can say.

Slash means building is dangerous.

X means condemned.

Used for firefighters and contractors when responding to calls or complaints about buildings. Serves explorers well to know what's out of commission.

Tard baseball (never heard of it) is different. Around here these signs are normally spraypainted rather high up on a building, and of course the single slash leaves the possibility to be updated to a full on condemned X if needs be.

The drains here have some strange markings in them that I've always been curious about. They are all two numbers separated by a plus sign, like "12+3". Those are spray painted in large letters in all of the drains in my area.

Also, there is a local abandonment that is slated for demo this summer that has "neg" and "pos" spray painted on a lot of the walls inside.

Anyone know what either of those would mean?

The "pos" and "neg" are referencing the cladding (exterior surfacing) of the building in various areas. It's measured in PSFs (pounds per square foot) and from what I understand, different areas, particularly those made of different materials and facing different directions can come under different wind pressure and the pressure is recorded as a positive and a negative number as the extremes of what can be endured and give.

Good to know what taking down a building so a weaker wall doesn't go down in a way or direction you don't want it to, especially if planning any implosions.

Sometimes I really think I shoulda skipped art school and gone off to be an engineer.
