[sp]Note to mods: i don't exactly know where this type of thread goes move if necessary.[/sp]
This is my first expedition, i went alone during the day to visit an old abandoned house in my old neighborhood.
It's located in the quiet streets of Mount Lawley, Perth, Western Australia [thar ya go, if anyone wants a little adventure, you can find it. There is also a drain in a park close by, that is yet to be explored.].

I took quite a few pictures too, i'll post the best ones that fit the story:

When i first came to the house, the fence wasn't there. This structure still exists, because i took those photos no less than a week ago!
On my first visit, i was coming home from school [i passed the house every day] and i had a spontaneous idea. I wasn't into exploring at the time, but the house seemed to say come in... and i just HAD to take a look.
As i stepped onto the property, i saw a grey cat, who was VERY friendly, and accompanied me while i was outside. Mind you, this being my first urban exploration, i was nervous, i did not know what the hell was in there, for all i knew a pack of wild dogs could have been in there. All of the front entrances were locked, but as i went around the back, i saw an obvious entrance where an old board had been kicked in previously [the back door was unlocked as i later discovered], and after i explored the surrounding shed and outhouse i crouched, and shuffled in. The air was musty, but cycled, as windows were smashed throughout the house. At the time, there was hardly any graffiti, and the entire building was almost in the exact same condition as it was when it was left behind. I first explored the room to my left, which turned out to be some form of wash room. The room which i had entered was obviously a dining room of sorts. I then proceeded to the kitchen, and the old fashioned stove caught my interest. It was very old indeed, and oddly it was stacked with fuel as if someone were to light it, but at the last minute decided not to. The pantry had a hole in the floor, and on the outside another little hole [probably some kind of firewood storage]. I then walked down the hall, the floor boards creaked under each step... I noticed a piece of paper with "CAUTION: unsafe flooring, watch your step!" written on it, and saw in quite a few places where the floor had crumpled in. First up down the hall on my right was the bathroom. It was a small room, with a cold feeling about it, the atmosphere unsettling. It reminded me of an old documentary, or something out of a film. [I checked in the toilet out of pure curiosity, and found someone had left a present recently ] I left the bathroom behind and peered into the next room, a living room with a big fireplace. The golden-colored walls of this room instantly shook off the cold doom i was feeling, and gave me a feeling of history. I could imagine people sitting in the room with a fire going. I almost sat down myself, but with more exploring to do, such a thing would be silly. I moved on, and found what i think is the master bedroom. It was well lit, and was inviting. But it was the most unsafe, with large amounts of floor damage, i had to pick my steps carefully to avoid plunging into the underworks below. There was a door which led to a sun-room out front, but it was locked. This room had a fireplace too, complete with logs! I went back, and searched the last room. This too could have been the master bedroom, i don't know which room really was... This room was the same cold blue that the bathroom was, and i didn't like the mood it emitted. This room also had i fireplace. I left it behind, and i checked the front door, and to my surprise i could unlock and open it without any trouble other than disturbing the eons worth of cobwebs. On the sill i noticed the old ceramic power fuses, and at the time i took one as a souvenir of my exploration [naughty me!]. On my way out i marveled the house, and combed over finer details. I heard a bang while revisiting the living room and froze as still as a statue for a solid three minutes. I turned around and expected to see someone with a knife, or a cop, but nothing was there. I looked and saw to my relief that the front door had blown open by the wind, and after carefully checking every room, i closed it and locked it, and double checked it. I then left the building with haste, but after leaving through the back door, i noticed a room on my right, and i looked at it. It was a stuffy little back room, and it had a single bed in it. I then left the house, and looked back at it for one last time before going home.

That was truly a memorable experience, purely because of the somber nature of the place, everything held it's breath until someone would come back to visit the lonely house.
Though when i recently visited the house, i was disappointed to see litter, and graffiti. Even though it's an abandoned house, the vandalism ruined the mood.

But nethertheless, this house is a very good 'snack' and i found it quite rewarding exploring it, and with Perth's somewhat lack of explorable places i recommend this house to the beginner urban explorer.

The only things you should note:
-Bring a torch if you're exploring by night.
-Bring something to defend yourself with, in case the vandals just happen to be there during your visit [*sigh* you can't do anything without worrying about some immature bastard attacking you for absolutely no reason]
=There is a fence, but there the driveway is you can simply open it inwards. There is no security, though note that neighborhood watch could be around.

Sounds like you has a great first explore! Your write up was very well done and you did a great job of conveying not only the condition of the house, but your thoughts and feelings along the way. For future reference you probably should be more vauge about how you get into places, but just being an old house it not too much of a problem in this instance. Something that would improve your write ups would be to sign up at a photo hosting site like Photobucket or Flickr and post the pictures in image code brackets as you go so people can see exactly which scene you're describing, it's also a lot more convenient to look at the pictures since the forum's gallery feature is kind of a pain the way it uses thumbnails.

Great job and keep at it!

I'm glad you guys liked it
I found the in-built gallery creator quite useful, trying to host images on imageshack or some other site seems to be a little detrimental [they always say 'bandwidth exceeded or something] and hosting on my personal server runs into a similar problem if a picture gets popular.

I'll see about getting a photobucket account, but i think that by removing the tags i could individualize the pictures enough to fit a story.

With the amount of pix you posted the small ones are best. 1-12 or so I think full pix are ok. Good job & welcome to the site.

sometimes you can condense light and defense into one object by bringing along a large (5-6 cell) maglite. its better then bringing a knife because last time i checked criminal possession of a flashlight doesn't exist

True if you don't mind lugging something that huge with you everywhere you go! I prefer to keep my gear as light as possible, but that's just my opinion... Also mag lights are pretty lousy flashlights, get something smaller with a much higher output.

I disagree, maglights are some of the best flashlights built.

If you have the room to carry a 3D or larger maglight with an LED it can come in very handy. Good as a weapon, very very bright, switches from White to Red light with the easy to install / remove filter, very sturdy and well built, lasts for years, and most importantly... with the LED and D-Cell batteries it lasts forever.

I've had my share of small lights with bright outputs, none compare to my 3D maglight. The only advantage sometimes is size, but it's hard to beat on an attacking raccoon with a keychain light.

Both large and small lights are good, but quaility is good in the maglight (maybe not the small ones LOL)

Forgot to add....

Distance with a 3D maglight and LED bulb far exceeds any small flashlight I've ever worked with. Sure some little lights put out as much light in an enclosed area, but they can't light-up shit 200 feet away. Not always neccessary, but important sometimes
