| | | well the other day i was bored at work and got to talking about lasers and auto focusing at night in a ninja way with one of my coworkers. i came up with a type of boreoscope made for a lens on a camera that will send a beam from a laser unit that you could auto focus on. also i came up with a similar low light ninja red led grenade for lighting rooms in dark building with red light knowing that red light is harder to see out of windows, its powered by a 9 volt battery. and for the last one im building a super bright water proof doom light for draining. using the casing of a old work light and powering it with some cheap li-ion rechargeables from a old rc car. it has 3 settings red leds that are for lighting yourself up and getting gear set and a huge set of super bright led's very powerful led's and the last row being for overall light painting with color changing led's that will throw different colors all over the scene while photographing... i have lots of ideas like this but i kinda want some input from my fellow uer's ra

I'm offended that you didn't use "ninja" in reference to your draining equipment.

well i truly hope people aren't to mean due to the fact that my dyslexia makes it hard for me to type and the fact that i had a accident when i was younger makes it even harder to type... there may be a few people that can see beyond petty things like that and maybe post a comment or two seriously you don't have to rip people apart for dumb things like that. if you have nothing more to do than comment on someones grammar then you may need to consider getting out of your computer chair and taking a walk to your local abandonment.

| | | Moved this to Rookie - quick reminder to everyone that rule one in THIS forum is to not be a cock. As for the projects - the first one sounds pretty useful! Know what I'd like as well? An AF assist system that uses ultrasonics, like old Polaroid cameras did. It wouldn't give a shit if there was ZERO light - it'd still focus. I wonder why we don't see them anymore? I'm guessing there's a technical reason they fell out of fashion but dunno what it is. Chris...

| | | I never understood the reason why so many people use lasers to focus their cameras in drains and dark buildings....if your subject matter is more than a couple of feet away from you (and even if it isnt), just turn your AF off, set the focus to infinity and shoot at an aperture over 5.6....problem solved and you dont ever have to worry about focusing again. props for the motivation to do it anyways tho....Ive been loafting on my manhole key for months now...

And it'll be nice and soft. It's sharpest a few degrees back from infinity (as marked on most lenses) but that's still no substitute for getting actual focus on something (using AF or Manual viewfinder focussing, whatever method works out best). Also F5 - 8 is the sharpest zone for most lenses; anything smaller can start to fuzz around edges and make light sources very 'bursty' I've noticed. I've found the 'set to near infinity and shoot' method worked perfectly on my Point and Shoot cameras - Powershot A70, A75, A95 (so well in fact that the firmware pulls this trick automatically if it can't get focus lock in the dark). Doesn't work very well with my D-SLR though (450D), I'd far rather actually focus on something. YMMV Chris...

| | | Spent all night tinkering around with several different designs and what i came up with is the laser system works tested and proven and what it comes down to with the why use a laser argument, laser pointers are mostly glorified flashlights, the lasers that i purchased are designed to stay as a fine beam but still spread just enough for cameras to see at distance, most people use cheap ones which spread and diffuse at a distance which makes it suck, plus the minor variations even at a distance can throw even the best focused shot off not to mention the fact that it saves time if you need to get in and out quickly! for the mega doom light for lack of a better explanation, here's the design for my first prototype, the unit functions with the use of lithium ion batteries rechargeable of course (gotta stay green) and uses 45 high brightness led lights, i scrapped the use of the color changing for THIS system. the results, i still have floaters in my eye's. now for the finally i worked on my "grenade" the idea was to create a device to light a room as discreetly as possible, well I've redesigned it a bit, the device now has two functions and is waterproof, the primary system is still red led's with a addition of the color changing system, so now it works as a color changing tea light that you can use to add a bunch of colors to you image.
anyone got anything they can add to any of these i'm still in development and would like any assistance anyone could offer, also if anyone has any ideas on anything they would want to see built give me a idea!

as for that ultrasonic assist system, I'm going to look into it, i happened to come across a ultrasonic broadcaster and receiver that i could modify but it will take some development, but from my research it wasn't really a technical issue as much as it was a expense thing, and in today's day and age i think i can get my parts for it from a electronics wholesaler in china, if anyone happens to have specs on a old system that'd be great maybe i can match them and have a friend build a bridge program chip between the camera and the system. thanks for feed back keep it coming! i really wanna make some cheap but real inventions for all of us to benefit from!

| | | I like any LED light that can switch from RED to WHITE easily. When I first started exploring places at night that I wasn't supposed to be, I would use a Petzl headlamp that cost a ridiculous amount of money. I bought an accessory for it, it was a red filter cover. It snapped into position and could be removed, but it was a pain in the ass. Eventually I decided that I would buy a really cheap headlamp for use of the white light only. I purchased an Energizer model LED headlamp and discovered during the first use... push the switch one way and I had white light, push it the other way and I had red light. I never used my Petzl headlamp again, I don't even know where it went. Switching from Red to white on the fly is awesome! Good luck with your ideas.
You can't be lost if you don't care where you are! |
