I get the joy of using the computer all day @ work so I like to look around. Has anyone ever followed up on any of these minning locations, or visited any mine in the state?

Here is a map I found.

I haven't been to any of those, but I'm surprised so many on the Olympic Peninsula are missing. One of the better documented abandoned copper mines there is called Tubal Cain Mine, with two well-known entrances that are still accessible via a backpacking trail maintained by the forest service. One of the entrances goes pretty deep (but has had several reported cave-ins), and this time of year they will soon both be snowed in.

The peninsula is a treasure trove of good stuff. Like you've done, the easiest way to discover it is to catch up on the history of the mining boom, railways and more recent timber roads.

There are a couple of blocked mine entrances SE of Exit 158 off 12th, off Beacon Coal Mine Road. There are also non-surface mines in SE King County around Cumberland, Kangley, Palmer, and Cumberland. Near Black Diamond there is the remains of Franklin, which was a predominately Black community that was attacked by the White miners from Black Diamond(Think "Rosewood", except the folks from Franklin kicked ass).
There's also a few mines north of Bellingham(hence Portal Way)
