| | | Not sure if this counts as urbex or not but viewing the CHORD installation in the Kingsway tunnels offers a half hour tour through the site ultimately ending in viewing their "art exhibit" rope making machine. In their own words... Conceived specifically for the long subway, the artist has built two identical rope machines that will weave a thick hawser from 324 spools of coloured string. These vast machines will begin back to back in the centre of the space and then gradually move away from each other slowly down the subway following the old tram tracks. Like two huge spiders, they will slowly weave their rope behind them as they slowly travel through the space over the course of the exhibition. Plenty of information about the site on the Sub Brit web site http://www.subbrit...gsway_tram_subway/. The tube map and signs are fake and where used as part of a film set in the film The Escapist. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0961728/

| | | The rope-making machines don't seem to have any visible means of propulsion. Is it just gravity that moves them along? Great history behind this place. Those double-decker underground tram cars are out of this world.
It's great to be alive! |

| | | I'm pretty sure there was a small electric motor connected to a driving wheel on the middle rail. What would have been really cool would hvae been to have used the old rails.

| | | Look to the middle of this shot - the blue part is the drive motor I think. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |
