Please for the love of god don't let the examples posted here make you think you can recover a bad or mediocre photo with post-processing. They're all overdone and your original is heads and tails above hyper-saturated, faux-HDR fuzzy crap. Cart before the horse- learn to shoot first before insisting you can make an end result look 'better.'

Take time to learn your camera and most importantly, in-camera composition is key. Move around before you take a shot, try different angles, if it's a place you can return to, try shooting it at different times of day. The diffused light is nice, but you don't really have a focus. Keep at it. I'd like to see what else you can do.

Get down, girl, go 'head, get down.

Pretty good for first! No real advice to add except to borrow the Nat Geo Ultimate Field Guide to Photography (Said product on Amazon) to learn some more tips and tricks.

Now, let's see your second attempt!

Why do people insist on sharing their first attempt, they are always shit?

Please show us your 12,000th attempt.

Elitist.

I cannot believe the gall that is required to openly humiliate another person.

Then again, it is hard to see your crown and sceptre through the computer screen. Oh, High and Holy, Photography King-God.

Was your 1st attempt so amazing? Was your 100,00th beyond Godly?

I don't care who you are.

Unless you got some real guidance and some genuinely constructive criticism to offer, Unplug you keyboard and step away from the computer.

We are going to inherit the earth . There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie may blast and burn its own world before it finally leaves the stage of history. We Are not afraid of ruins. We who ploughed the prairies and built the cities can build again, only better next time. We carry a new world, here in our hearts. That world is growing this minute.

In my searches I've found some interesting reading on Ken Rockwell's photography website. He has many articles on technique, as well as equipment reviews and recommendations. But don't view his thoughts, or anyone else's, as the top authority on photography or gear. Find what works for you, and really study your own and other people's pictures to see why they work or don't work.

I hope you don't mind, but I just fiddled with your image for a minute to illustrate-
You could probably do a better job doctoring it if you spent a bit longer than I did, but I think it "pops" a bit more this way.

Lol, I just edited his picture myself, and my version is nearly Identical to yours! Just not as Saturated. Maybe I'm finally learning about composition after 2 years behind the camera...

Welcome to the team. That's what makes this site what it is, take out the unhelpful (but often amusing) knobs and it'd be dull.

Oh man, I didn't know I was getting into the middle of a slap fight, but anyway, people are dicks, let us move on...
good spot, and good attempt.
Here is something I would recommend you look at:
http://www.amateur...-composition-rules
Take viewpoint and cropping especially to heart.
Your photograph is taken at a point of view most of us would expect. Always try something new and daring. If I were in your position taking the photograph, I would have moved slightly to the left, so you could see more of the side of the building. Also, Avius's style of cropping really drew your eyes to the subject.

I'm looking forward to seeing a second attempt, and I really hope the butt munches didn't scare you away.
