Scout the location. Even if someone has been there before, it's occupancy could have changed since then.

The caged being inside of you must break free from his shackles, for our partial sanity or pseudo-sanity, if so applies, cannot contain it forever without repercussion of mental breakdown.

the thing about Denver public schools is that, typically even though they are not in use they still own the building you know what i mean? like gove middle school on 14th and colorado blvd has been abandoned for quite a few years now but i think dps still has some plans for it or something.

In any case its still probably live and personal experience has showed that most dps buildings are big brothered to hell so anything you do in there is probably closely monitored. So its probably not a great idea.

and why can't you figure out in person whether its in use or not? i mean, have you actually stood outside of it or are you just playing with google street view?

ps.
it just took me all of ten seconds on google to answer your question.

there are many simple ways to figure out if a building is abandoned.

you might want to follow this guys lead by actually looking in a window...

or this guy...now he be jammin knocking on that front door...

and this crazy lady picked up the phone! think of all the people she could be chatting with...411, the historical society, denver public school system...

hey if they can do it...you can do it too!

well thats the thing about anything thats abandoned in the US, even though the building isnt in use or occupied there is usually some asshole realtor company or some part that owns the rights to the building. Its been my experience that public buildings in particular are still live even after "abandonment"

believe me i've somewhat tried to set up a squat in this abandoned warehouse complex. So basically we spent 2 months cleaning it up, etc and we even found some furniture and we made some rope swings on this catwalk and we even had the keys to all the doors. And we were occupying it for like half year then one day everything is just boarded up. End of story. Its not even in use, we tried calling the realtor company a couple of times but not too frequently its just a eye sore. The point is people can be douches about this kind of thing, both ways. I guess parties that own abondements could be held liable for dumb asses who hurt themselves and they wouldnt want any part of that.

The best way to go about these things is not get caught.

Awesome!

Couldn't hurt to try the door one of these days...that's what I do when I want to know if the site is a go or not. School day during normal hours? If it's locked that one's all yours.

recently we have scouted this place at about dusk, and so far all that we know is that they have some lights tat go on after dark, and all the windows are boarded up with black plywood, making it look like impenetrable darkness, and the only view of the inside that we could get was a window with a board that had a corner broken off. the play ground looks awful, and we could find only one broken window. The reason why the yard is so well kept, is probably because this school is a Denver landmark so they cant tear it down.

the inside view:

so far from this view, the inside doesn't look so bad.

the outside:
163846.jpg (41 kb, 660x495)

the yard seems pretty well kept for an abandoned building, but lights?
playground:

163848.jpg (52 kb, 660x495)

163849.jpg (69 kb, 660x495)

the play ground is the worst looking part of the school, all the play equipment is rusted and old and the fences are rusted as well, we still aren't positive if this building is abandoned or not, next time we visit i will try and find more info.

the dark is never a bad thing.

not bad, you might not want to take pictures of yourselves trying to get in though...

and yes, the neighbours DO call the cops. this is definitely a nighttime thing, i think.

I find it harder to walk around in residential areas at night, especially if your not of the chosen race.

Use your brain kiddo. They are YOUR photo's, and YOU are asking questions about the property. All fingers point to you when the shit hits the fan at this spot, dude. If you want my advice.. Throw a brick of C4 on the front door, hide behind the police cruiser, and run inside as soon as the smoke clears. At least at this point you are GUARANTEED to attract attention.
