| | Old rural house - Madeira Island - So Jorge < on 10/14/2009 8:42 PM >
| | | One thing that will always fascinate me is the countryside, especially the habitacional buildings. They represent a genuine architecture based on the social and physical needs of the place they are inserted. In my island, due to a strong depopulation, there are hundreds of old houses abandoned, completely degraded, which constitutes, for the Urban Explorer a joy to explore. Me and Manikpc would like to show to all UE users some pictures from a typical rural house that we found in São Jorge. Hope you liked it. Beautiful view of the road that is near the house.

Proximity shot of the house.
Front view of the house
A rusted metal bar. It is a local method to make wine. Its called, in the native language "lagar".
Above shot of the wine engine. The metal is used to press the grapes. Its juice is then driven to a bottom basin showed in the picture.
Fragile structure
Old chair

| | | Nowadays, most buildings doesnt even have a wine engine. My bet is that is was built in the seventies or eighties. That was the time that agriculture was Madeira´s main economical source.
