| | | The only "motel" in that area was a neat old 40's autocourt, and much to my disappointment it's long gone now. It consisted of a early 30's bungalow converted to office building, and "strips" of neatly kept single level motel rooms (think psycho) all nestled into a large forested lot. Very cool, very rare, and very bulldozed. GRRR. The house on Canada Way has been empty for over 15 years. I place it somewhere in the mid to late 40's. As far as I know it still stands, but is in very poor condition, boarded up and almost entirely overtaken by blackberries, vines, etc. Rather a large home, but total shit hole. A nearby house of the same design was renovated about 10 years ago, and shows roughly what this sagging rotting old girl USED TO look like. http://maps.google...naby&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&sspn=28.525868,56.162109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=5224+Canada+Way,+Burnaby,+Greater+Vancouver+Reg ional+District,+British+Columbia&ll=49.242511,-122.961345&spn=0,359.986289&z=16&layer=c&cbll=49.23897 1,-122.961349&panoid=lizJFji60acJnSb7dtecjA&cbp=12,355.61,,0,5

| | | I'm pretty sure that old dump is still there, but KAPS mentioned a house burning down and I don't know where that would have been. I'm in Victoria now but it was still standing late last year. That whole area is sure a hell of a lot different than it was 15 years ago. All those new houses and new roads in behind there do a damn good job of hiding the fact that it was ALREADY a subdivision. Me and a friend were snooping around there in the days before all those houses were torn down and I remember how freaky it was. Then they tore down every house, every tree, and every road and alley, and basically started from scratch. Very weird, I had never seen that before.

| | | Oh. Thanks KAPS, mystery solved. I had my mind about three houses up towards New West on the same side, in the mouth of a cul-de-sac. That old dump looks familiar, though. Was that the one with the freaky red front door pressed right up against the sidewalk?

| | | K so its quite evident i cant stay away lol. i have a spot that i've been DYING to check out: http://maps.google...4107,0.013797&z=16 its apparently a vacant 600 car indoor auto showroom thats been closed for sometime, easily the biggest location ive come across since coming out this way. there was another building to the left of that one on the next block that i got to check out due to demo starting but its gone now. Which makes getting into this one before its gone very pertinent. if anybody is interested pm me, i have a car and all that. cheers! Kaps [last edit 3/23/2010 2:54 PM by KAPS - edited 1 times]

| | | Well now THAT sure does look like the old Dueck showroom. They rebuilt up the road a bit and moved everything over to the new site a few years ago, and the old site has been vacant ever since. I thought that WalMart was trying to build on that site. hmmm. Now I do not have proof, but Dueck on Marine has been a landmark Vancouver business since 1925/26, and it's widely thought that the original 20's showroom and garage are encased in the current vacant structure. Might make for some interesting snooping. I just reminded myself of "The Bridge" movie studios in Burnaby. Named so because it's previous owners was the Dominion Bridge Company, makers of the Pattullo Bridge in the 30's. The turn of the century headquarters / office building is burried within the current red and grey metal super-building.

| | | Ugh. Hopefully LOTS! Would ya just look at that awful thing. Abandoned motels are surely way better when they're haunted. Oh and Yohan12, the old rotted abandoned house on Canada Way is still there, barely tiptoeing over the rampant brambles. Seems like most other houses on either side of it are gone now though. I smell a BIG development coming up. If you're going to check it out, take a minute and go check out 5070. Its a great old 30's brick and cobble stone tudor house, complete with arched medieval doorway that will likely be torn down soon as well. I had the pleasure of helping the owner bring it back from the dead years ago (it was a rental when it was trashed, then the owners came back from Ontario to reclaim it) and the schizophrenic architecture and interior detailing will stay with me forever. NOTE: this house IS still inhabited.
